Elvis & Karen Conrad (Modern Screen, August 1964)

Tue Oct 30, 2012 1:34 am

From the August 1964 issue of Modern Screen magazine.
Elvis left me in the middle of the night

Did Elvis really date this actress Karen Conrad, or is this just publicity for their movies?

Another interesting article. Actress Karen Conrad would not have delivered such a detailed story to the media had Elvis not stopped dating her. Her career was oddly short. She made just two films, small supporting roles for the great Sam Fuller, "Shock Corridor" (1963) and "The Naked Kiss" (1964).

What happened to her? As noted in the magazine, she was engaged to Bob Mitchum's son, Jim, but they broke up before the nuptials.

Yes, Elvis and I did date. Karen Conrad was my screen name. My real name is Bonnie Karlyle and I am a songwriter living in the U.S. You will find a book called "Down At The End Of Lonely Street" in which I was interviewed about my time with Elvis. The 3 years I spent in Hollywood was a very special time for me but I had 2 children at a very young age and decided not to raise them in Hollywood…also this was the reason my relationship with Elvis ended.
Bonnie Karlyle ala Karen Conrad

Thank you, Bonnie, for visiting here and giving us an update. Do you remember the 1964 article in question, from Modern Screen?

Yes, I do. I have the magazine in my scrapbook. Only show it to close friends as I live in a small town and have had people who know want to bring their friend to my house to meet me! Anyway my grandkids get a kick out of my stories of my younger
Hollywood days. Have started a book and one day might finish it.

Please do finish the book.

You knew Elvis, you worked with director Sam Fuller, you were a part of a legendary Hollywood era. It will be a fabulous story to share, I am sure!
