School photos (portraits, class) are usually taken in late-September, early-October of the school year.
At May Street School, they were always shot in Spring.

Well, of course -- May comes in Spring.

Wasn't posted here yet. I strongly believe it's 1948. I also believe Elvis took the right one whil Vernon took the left one. I don't know, just saying.

Nice...I like your theory and think you may be right.

Also, the right one is in a lower perspective

It varies by the school. (Or school system.)
I went to 17 different schools before high school. In one, I know it was the beginning if the year, cause I was gone by spring. But they sent the yearbook, and I'm in it. (It was October, cause there's also pics of the Halloween party.)
In others, it was definitely done in the spring (One says "March.") In still others, it varied, and I often missed out.
So, Iacking documentation, we cannot say the month. Best would be to contact a classmate: Ausburn is the logical choice. And Forbes. Far as I know, they're still just fine.
Oh, George Klein! Marty also went to Humes, I believe.

Forbes? Are you talking about Buzzy Forbess? Buzzy graduated in class of 55, I believe George Klein would know more about class pictures dates than Buzzy.
And yea someone should ask Ausborn. I just don't know where he lives today. I think he's still living in Tupelo.

Yep, that Buzzy. (You got the spelling right; I did not.) The "professional neighbor." (You know your Elvis, ole man! A lesson to our friend "Errol Flynn."

)
And, thanks.

Love the contrast in Gladys's body language towards her boy and her husband.

Maurice must be getting hot and bothered with this topic.

No mystery, it's probably his kindergarden (1940) or 1st grade (1941) picture.
Being born in 35 that is most likely kindergarten , the usually starting age is 5 yrs to start

Thanks for the credits, Doc. Here are three more photo's which either are a bit bigger or a bit better in quality:
1946 Tupelo.jpg

6th Grade.jpg
Also added: two that are not shown in this thread yet:

Don't know if this is Memphis or Tupelo still:

And this one is not shown yet. Date also not known I guess, or is it?
Two year old Elvis Presley poses for a family portrait with his parents Vernon Presley and Gladys Presley.jpeg
And this one gives a bit more detail than the other one. This is cropped in square however, the other one isn't:
youngELVIS.jpg
A lot bigger than the other one:
Young Elvis, Vernon, Gladys - Tupelo.jpg
Cropped, but brighter and sharper:
2002.jpg
A tiny bit bigger than the other one 1530x2000 (title given by the site where I found this):

And wt about that pic of supposedly a young (aged 6?) Elvis riding on a horse or something that was posted here a year or so ago? (I can't find it).
It's not the original. That one was a bit more damaged. I can't find the original. But this is the one you mean, I guess. Is the date known? And does somebody know who the other kid is?

I found this version of the 6th grade photo. The quality is nowhere near as good as the other one but this one is less cropped.
I believe the original has the the dates 1946-47 underneath but I can't find it. I am very sure EPE has the original negative.

Ack.
With all due respect, "piretos" was notorious for some absolutely hideous, faked photos. And that example you posted is more of the same.
This "artist" not only colourized the school portrait, but also overlaid an older face of Elvis on top of the original. A normal person does not desecrate historical images like that.

It's circa 1950, in front of Lauderdale Courts in Memphis.

Couple of different perspectives of Lauderdale Courts for those who may not be as familiar with the location. The arrow on the aerial shows the approximate location of where Elvis stood in your pic.
