I believe that is Elvis' grandfather Jesse in the picture.

Great photo hilton, never seen this before.
The old gentleman in the photo is Dan Shackleford who appear in other photos from May 29, 1956.

I have dated both P. Harrington photos as May 28th

According to the photographer the photo was taken just after they arrived from a tour (instruments stlll packed on the roof of the car)
They finished the tour after the last 8 pm show in Dayton, OH on May 27th.
Elvis arrived by plane from Dayton on May 28th, and the roadtrip from Dayton to Memphis is about 10 hrs (525 m)
so there are 2 likely options:

- Scotty & Bill also left Dayton early morning (May 28th) and arrived at Elvis house later that same day (late afternoon / early evening) OR
- it took Scotty & Bill more than 1 day and 1 night to drive from Dayton to Memphis and the photo is from May 29th

Though both options are possible, I would assume the band would like to spend as much time as possible in Memphis to relax with friends
and family before starting their 2100 miles trip to Oakland only a few days later ?

Thanks for your input E-Cat.

From the shadows in the photos I would say they were taken around noon.

One of the Marvin Israel photos at the airport shows a clock in the background with the time being just a minute or two prior to noon. Question is whether the photo is from Dayton or Memphis airport.

A 1951 American Airlines (to which the Flagship Acadia belonged) timetable shows a departure at 2:45 p.m. from Dayton arriving in Memphis at 5:34 p.m. while a 1958 timetable had a departure at 8:34 am arriving in Memphis at 11:30 a.m.

So either date could still be possible.
