Lakeland, Fl. August 6, 1956
Browsing through some post-1977 newspapers I stumbled upon this photo from Lakeland, August 6, 1956.
I believe I've seen the photo in much better quality but I can't remember where. Anybody out there got it in better quality, please feel free to post it here. Sincerely
Brian

When I was a child I was a dreamer,
I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book
And I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie
So every dream I´ve ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.

Great photo, thank you very much, Brian
I'm sure i've seen it before, but i can remember where...i'll look in my folders.
Bellow is another photo from Lakeland, i really can't remember the exact source, must be from one of Paul Lichter's books.

Re: Lakeland, Fl. August 6, 1956
As for the photo of Elvis drinking a glass of water, this is actually from Memphis, June 19, 1956. Look at the background, it's above the fireplace at Audubon Drive. SincerelyYou do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Here's the photo without the mark on it. Cool shirts mrbthebarber. As with copies the differences are often easy to detect. Still, nice shirts.

"The real thing" as in the ones that belonged to Elvis??mrbthebarber wrote:They are not copies Brian, they are the real thing but thank you for the compliment. I'll try & post a pic of their labels later especially the New York purchased one. Always enjoy your posts.
Take a look at the black dots on the inside of the shirt. Unless my eyes deceive me the dots go in a different direction on your shirt.
Also, on the collar there is 9 rows of dots on Elvis' shirt while only 7 on yours. The shirts might be the same brand as the ones Elvis owned but definitely not the same as the one Elvis wears in the photo.
Maybe that was what you meant with "the real thing."?
Sincerely

Is Perkins the correct photographer as mentioned in your filename.bripet56 wrote:Thanks hilton, I found it a little bit bigger but with text across it.
As far as I know it was Art Parker who took the concert shots while Ledger's staff writer
Elvalee Donaldson was credited for this backstage shot.
Please do not thank me--- Thank Elvis for making THIS happen.

Thanks, if the credits are correct this means that Art Perkins took the backstage photo's while Elvalee Donaldson covered the story.bripet56 wrote:This photo was not printed in the 1956 newspapers so maybe he took this one
I also found some shots taken by Ledger photographer Landis Fleming, but not in great quality:
Lakeland: Aug 6 1956 - with fan Ginger Harrel

This is the info I had has well (together with the info from the Ledger newspaper that Art Perkins took the concert photo's)JamesVRoy wrote:Elvalee took the photo on the stairs.
So that's why I assumed that Elvalee took the otther backstage photo as posted as well.

The photo of Elvis on the stairs as well as this next one were actually both taken by Elvalee Donaldson according to Ledger August 7
Photo from http://www.scottymoore.net/lakeland.htmlTHE CROWD AND THE MAN - Lakeland street scene while Florida Avenue crowd waits in front of the Polk theater for a glimpse of Elvis Presley. Brooding over the scene is the pelvis man himself. The personality picture was actually taken in his dressing room back stage. That's water he's drinking, while talking to Elvalee Donaldson, who took both pictures, and wrote the LEDGER story.

Yes indeed Brian, as in not "copies" like you had mentioned earlier. The shirt is a 50's original out of New York by the "Bel Aire Shop, Sckemsctady N.Y". I had always assumed Elvis had also bought his in N.Y early in 56 as he is photograhed in his at the NY train Station By Wertheimer I believe but thinking about it wasn't that July & someone states here that some of these other pics in this shirt ( which are great to see by the way ) were taken in June which knocks my theory. The shirts might be the same brand as the ones Elvis owned but definitely not the same as the one Elvis wears in the photo.
Maybe that was what you meant with "the real thing."?
Cheers.

He made several trips to New York as early as December 55 so its possible he still may have bought it there.mrbthebarber wrote:Yes indeed Brian, as in not "copies" like you had mentioned earlier. Yeah, I know you're into 50's clothing and I guess we just misunderstood each other about the copy-thing.mrbthebarber wrote:Yes indeed Brian, as in not "copies" like you had mentioned earlier. As far as I know Elvis wore this shirt for the first time on June 19 and then again on June 29 in Charlotte.
James, I doubt Elvis would have the shirt lying around in his wardrobe for at least 3 months before using it.
I think it is more likely that he bought the shirt at Lansky's during his days home in June.
This then would mean that the photos of Elvis shopping at Lansky's were shot on June 14, 15 or 18.

Brian

There's always that too Brian, but my point was that because he wore it in June before he was photographed by Al in July is not of itself reason to eliminate a possibility of it being from New York.bripet56 wrote:Yeah, I know you're into 50's clothing and I guess we just misunderstood each other about the copy-thing.mrbthebarber wrote:Yes indeed Brian, as in not "copies" like you had mentioned earlier. Mine was just a suggestion.
The shirt could still be from New York as the Lansky brothers often ordered clothes from other major cities.

That would explain the - Photos provided by Perkins Photographic and Photos courtesy of Perkins Photographic
I don't think so Brian. First of all she was a staff writer, meaning she was employed by the Lakeland Ledger. Common rule in this
scenario (unless you are a free lance photographer or have a special contract stating otherwise) is that the newspaper owns the
photo's taken by their employees. So if Elvalee took the photo's, they were actually owned by the newspaper (Lakeland Ledger)
and therefore she normally cannot transfer the copyrights of a photo she does not own.
Secondly, having had a closer look at the credits - courtesy of / provided by Perkins Photographic - this does not automatically
assume that Perkins owned the copyrights. It only means that Perkins provided the photo's. However he could have provided a better
scan of a photo he took himself (but owned by the Ledger - which would explain why Perkins was not credited as copyrighted owner)
Nevertheless, it's a great photo.
You are welcome - Here is partial copy of the article with 5 Landis Fleming photo's below:hilton22000 wrote:GREAT photo, new to me!! Thank you very much, E-Cat
