Elvis and Gladys 1945???

Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:48 pm

Just got this one sent via e-mail.
Supposedly it should be Elvis and Gladys to the left in the photo, taken in Mississippi 1945.
If Elvis, I think he looks to be older than 10.

What do you think??

My God! i do believe it is!!!

It COULD be a genuinue old photo with Elvis and Glady's head's superimposed, but I hope this ISN'T a fake because it definitly looks like them two! Wish it was better quality.

I tried enhancing it a little. My guess is No.

I think it could well be. They look very smart, for people who were supposed to be dirt poor, but perhaps they're going / have been to church?

Definitely looks like Gladys and a young Elvis.

That's Elvis for sure. Looks like Gladys too. But as I said, it could be head's photo shopped from elsewhere. I HOPE it's genuine.

Well, it certainly could be Elvis and Gladys but with this quality it's impossible to know for sure.

It looks like a fake, unfortunately.

Especially the woman one presumes is Gladys -- the face is pasted on.

There are many unpublished photos from this era in private hands, but they will not likely see the light of day because they were not acquired in a legal manner.

It could be doc. But we can't be 100% sure yet. Elvis looks pretty convincing in posture and tone etc.

I tend to agree. It looks real but `Gladys' seems slightly odd.
Still interesting to see

I for one, wouldn't bet on it being Elvis and Gladys. However, I do hope I am wrong, for I just absolutely llllllllllove seeing new candids! Brian, thankyou for uploading for all to see. Cheers :smt023

I would bet no, too. At first glance, I thought it looked very possible. But there are too many question marks for me to agree that it's real. I hope it is, but guessing that it's not.

As am I. Mind you, this could very well be a picture of the very first Elvis impersonator.

The key to verifying authenticity would be to ascertain the identities of the other people in the picture. Any ideas?

Oh of course, yeah.

It's John and Pat from number 23, with little Hortense....

You're good! That's that one sorted, then.

I meant, do they look like any known relatives or associates from that time? The person who might be able to help in this respect is someone like Tupelo historian and genealogist, Roy Turner.

Got the pic from a friend in England who wrote:
Hi Brian,

I just found this on TCB-World.com! The bluish version is what the poster took off the Internet a while back, he says, and the improved version is what he was able to do to make it clearer. He says "In the photos that I have, Jim Curtin quotes this as coming from July 1945 at Potomac Mississippi." Supposedly it came from one of Elvis's relatives.

I have looked at a very detailed Mississippi map and there is no Potomac, so presumably it was Pontotoc Miss which is about 15 miles from Tupelo.

The only people identifed by the poster are Elvis and Gladys, to the left of the picture. It certainly looks like them!

Feel free to post on Collectors and ask what people think, if you wish!

Sincerely
Brian

So it's Jim Curtin.

Damn. We've had some problems before with jim's pics I seem to recall.

I still hold out some hope.

It would be a great find if true but something about that kids hairstyle screams no way to me.
