Evansville or NY 1972?

Wed Jan 13, 2010 1:15 pm

A great looking lot turned up at eBay recently, and the price is already out of my range...
Anyhow, is this shot from NY or Evansville? I'm kinda hoping for the latter as the seller is located in Indiana... 8)

Well, I kinda think I figured it out...the mic windscreen was much smaller in Evansville than in NY (see below)...so this set for sale must then be from Evansville...right...?

I spotted 'em too! I reckon Evansville....why? Look for Elvis' cape (NOT).
Cape definately worn at the Garden.

Batjak, you are so right, at the garden Elvis used a cape on the first songs, on the pictures we see here it`s no cape, Thanks :D

Thanks Scott.
I thought I had posted all 12 photos but now I see that I managed to post the same photo twice and thus missed posting the one you posted. Thanks

Wow that's a lot of cash for those photos. i wonder what they would do with that. Like a little booklet for the next Evansville soundboard release? hope they dont think the photos are from NY. Either way they are nice.

Remember these? Well whoever bought them back in January must be kicking himself now, as deepsouthfried is now selling the same photos for only $19.95!
They must be the real thing as
PHOTOS ARE PROFESSIONALLY PRINTED / REPRODUCED ON HIGH QUALITY FUJIFILM PHOTO PAPER...NO HOME MADE PRINTS HERE!

Somebody stop that guy! :)

Incidentally, it seems that Bonja was also taking photos at this show, as the one below is credited to him...?

Agree 100% Doc.... that's one of my favorite suits. Looked spectacular on him. Kinda shocked to not see the cape on with the guitar, though; he wore it in Fort Worth.

If I remember correctly, sometime in 1972, he began wearing the cape only for the exit and stopped using it for the entrance.

That started in Vegas in August.

It was that way for the duration of the cape era.

Except, apparently, for Evansville in June.

I know they were a PIA and all that, but doing away with the cape for stage entrances sure killed the Captain Marvel aura for the most part.

Yes, except for that show for whatever reason.

I agree that when he stopped coming on stage with the capes, it definitely took away somethig from his appearance. He looked tough as hell walking on stage at the Garden in June.

To me, that's Elvis.

I agree Rob. The cape was uber-cool. I remember in Tuscaloosa he was very animated with the cape when he came on, swirling it about. Which probably explains why it came loose partially during the opening number...

Tuscaloosa 14 Nov 1971? You saw that show? Hot damn. Since I first heard the audience recording back in the 80s I regard that show as top 3 show after the tours in 1970. Do you remember what it was like in the end of the show where he after a hell of a wild show surprise the audience with Jailhouse Rock at the end. Pity that the sound on the end are bad. I wish a better generation audience recording turns up one day. Ciscoking can you give us a sample of the source you have of the audience recording of Jailhouse Rock from that fantastic show?

Take care

Sincerley
