SMOKING IN LAS VEGAS, AUGUST 1969

What a funky, funky, funky picture of Elvis in Vegas.
Did anybody know, they had this smoke machines there in 1969?
I never saw a picture like this before.

In 1969 smoking was allowed everywhere you went, so my two cents are that the photographer himself or someone who sat next to him/ her was smoking the hell out of the showroom...

Joern, do you really think, that was some person in the audience, creating that huge smoke with his cigarette?
Couldn't it possibly be, that they used the smoke as part of the show. It seems, Elvis is doing something like "Mystery Train - Tiger Man", while this picture was taken.

perhaps the photo is damaged?? from experience, i know that if you have 5 or 10 people smoking in a given area, there could be that much smoke.
I DO NOT think they ever used a smoke machine

SOMEWHERE on the TTWII set Elvis mentions the smoke & jests about it.......can't remember where or what was said but certainly seemed like he was talking about a smoke machine.

It's just cigarette or cigar smoke -- it's the front row in Las Vegas, in the summer of 1969.

Elvis never used a smoke machine as part of his act, unless you count Charlie's furtive puffs behind Jerry Scheff's bass amp.

Seems, that it is really cigarette smoke that makes Elvis seem to disappear behind a strange cloud of "fog".
Seeing this, I do wonder, how many people walked out after a show, getting lung cancer on the way back home?

i did. looks like pretty bad taste to these eyes.
asked myself, if it´s one or two persons. if it´s really one, this person must be huge (compared to e´), so i doubt, it´s one of the sweet.
but i tend to the latter: two persons standing close to each other.

well, at least an arm and a leg from whoever.

Nice photo. I've seen others from the same angle but can't remember where & there is photos from other shows (Feb '70) where the angle is exactly the same.

I reckon it's Sherril Nielsen in one of his less-flamboyant get-ups...................

It's very clearly the left arm and leg of Estelle Brown, from the Sweet Inspirations. The shirt is black, the trousers multi-colored. She looks bigger because of her proximity to the camera.

Here's another shot from August 1969 which shows Estelle, sitting farthest stage left.
