I believe it is from Las Vegas, December 1976, a female fan getting close to Elvised40 wrote:Browsing on another favorite website (tcb world.com) I've found this rare pic, actually with no details....

This is new to me,thanks for sharing!
It's hard to beliueve that it's from 1976. He looks very slim... At first view i thought it's from 1970 or 1974
If it's indeed from dec. '76 then i'd like to see it in the booklet of the upcoming S.A. CD.

1970, with those lamb-chop sideburns? Nah it definitely looks like 76 to me. Very nice pic!Johanesson wrote:This is new to me,thanks for sharing!

The eyes are very telling -- I knew immediately it was from that engagement. They looked small and swollen -- he was not sleeping very well.Johanesson wrote:It's hard to beliueve that it's from 1976. He looks very slim...
Otherwise, there's not enough perspective in the image to make a call on his weight. In any case, he was not "slim" in Dec ' 76.

Great photo and link! The seller has some well known photos for sale I see.
I saw Elvis live in concert the year before he died. Even then, he was bigger than life, and had amazing charisma. Haven't seen anything like it since, ....until Adam.........Nocturnal 2010

He was relatively slim in Dec 76 (most men aged nearly 42 would feel relatively comfortable with his physique at this time) and his mutton-chops were huge - yes it is Dec 76.
Good photo too

Re: any details about this rare pic ?
His demeanor during this engagement is puzzling.
He did very well on the tour dates leading up to the opening, looking as healthy as he did for all of '76, to that point. In many of the photos from Anaheim and San Francisco, his eyes sparkle. "Well, he was smitten with Ginger," you might say. Then what happened just a few nights later in Vegas?
"He hated Vegas by this point." Yes, but he wanted to "blow Ginger's mind." I would think he'd rise to the occasion, in an attempt to impress her.
How did he feel about his breakup with Linda? Did he believe it was final?
His father was hospitalized while they were in Vegas. He seems to have been scared to death that Vernon would die, and felt guilty about his level of responsibility for his father's condition.
Maybe I'm reading into things too heavily, and it was just the ups and downs of his depression that were working on him.
