Elvis and Sam Phillips in the 60s
..
At 3:11 you see a picture of Elvis and Sam that I haven't seen before. When and where was this taken?

Re: Elvis and Sam Phillips in the 60s
I think its from the Banquet held in honour of Elvis before his Charity concerts in Memphis in 1961.

To be more precise, it's after Elvis' Memphis press conference, Saturday, February 25, 1961, and just before they all went to the official luncheon.ben wrote:I think its from the Banquet held in honour of Elvis before his Charity concerts in Memphis in 1961.

Thank you Doc, the '60's isn't my strong point.drjohncarpenter wrote:To be more precise, it's after Elvis' Memphis press conference, Saturday, February 25, 1961, and just before they all went to the official luncheon.ben wrote:I think its from the Banquet held in honour of Elvis before his Charity concerts in Memphis in 1961.

Re: Elvis and Sam Phillips in the 60s
Looking at these pics, I can't help thinking that a full beard would look good on Sam !
BTW - how did he fare after Elvis' departure from Sun ?
Did he die a rich man ?
I've often wondered............................

Didn't his investment in the Holiday Inn chain make him a very rich man. Hell, who needs rekkuds?ColinB wrote:Looking at these pics, I can't help thinking that a full beard would look good on Sam !

The short answer: yes.ColinB wrote:Looking at these pics, I can't help thinking that a full beard would look good on Sam !

The longer answer: save your money for Peter Guralnick's next biography, which will be on Sam Phillips.
All your wondering will cease upon completion of Peter's sure to be classic work.

Re: Elvis and Sam Phillips in the 60s
That last shot of Sam shows a resemblance to Neil Finn of Crowded House - just an observation.
