Could well be. The picture below (R) is from the signing of the movie contract with Hal Wallis (April 6th I believe).
Looks like he is wearing the same socks. jacket, shirt etc in both pictures:

Nope, they're not from Love Me Tender.
As E-Cat pointed out Elvis wears the same clothes as the day he signed the movie contract and these photos come from same date.
We still need to see the contract in order to get the date confirmed once and for all.

The original Agreement was made on April 2nd 1956 and was signed by Elvis, Hall Wallis and Joseph Hazen.
Furthermore the Agreement confirms that "The Parties hereto have duly executed these presents the
day and year first above written (which is April 2nd).
A copy can be found in EPE's Official Auction Catalogue (object A54 - page 57).

However the press conference with Hall Wallis (to announce the signing of the contract) was April 6th.
Debra Paget and the Colonel were also present.

That's why I still think that the photo's are from April 6th - which is also in line with the date as mentioned in
your book. However, the actual signing of the Agreeement is dated April 2nd.

Yeah E-Cat, that's what I meant to say above. The photos are from the same date as the ones with Hal Wallis, Debra Paget and the Colonel.
The very first photo in this thread started to pop up in newspapers on April 11, 1956.
