I'm sorry, but i must comeback to this topic. Like always, i have another problem...
Doc, you say the photo #1 is from March-April 1957. But i really can't find a show that match with this picture. Little help, please?
I just found another pictures, i think these are from the same show.
(this is photo # 1, uncroped)
And i found the answer for the photo # 5, i think: December 15, 1956 - Louisiana Hayride last performance

Where's Brian P when you need him? Yeah, my feeling is now that it's from either October or November 1956. I will try to find out more.hilton22000 wrote:Doc, you say the photo #1 is from March-April 1957. But i really can't find a show that match with this picture.

I would say the pics with the striped jacket would likely be from November 1956.

Re: Live 55-56: date, please
I will say right up front I am not a photo expert, but based on the guitar, and his hair length, I have a feeling Nov. is the month.
He looks very similair to the Louisville show pics.

The same jacket from Oakland, CA on June 3, 1956:
I don't know any picture from november with this jacket - but, of course, i don't have all the pictures from '56

The Jordanaires a have a lousy copy cropped of the same picture they caption as on the road Early 56. It can't be before late June because they didn't perform with him before the 23rd in Atlanta. BTW, any pix known of performances in Atlanta?hilton22000 wrote:I'm sorry, but i must comeback to this topic. Like always, i have another problem...

He's also wearing that same jacket at least around May of 57 during the Jailhouse Rock sessions in LA, and the hair looks pretty similar (sideburns anyway). The Martin in the concert pic above though suggest 56.

Re: Live 55-56: date, please
This isn't Tampa. And Its not Miami, St. Pete, or Jacksonville. So if its Florida it would have to be Lakeland on the 6th. Orlando on the 8th or Daytona on the 9th. It doesn't look like the interior of Lakeland which would be the Polk, another old ornate theater.hilton22000 wrote:Can you help me, please, with exact dates for these photos?

I haven't seen any shots of the insides of the other two auditoriums to compare.

The lady sitting in the front row--third from the left with no reaction on her face--certainly resembles Gladys Presley. It's not her, of course, but it does look like her. Elvis even appears to (possibly) be looking at her...JamesVRoy wrote:

I don't know what Lee wrote but I got that from the Day by Day book by Ernst and Peter. They say it was in Atlanta at the Paramount on June 23rd. I'll check what Peter has to say in Last Train to Memphis tonight. It seems odd that they would perform with him in March when in April they were only able to get Gordon Stoker to record with the Speers for the first time in Nashville.Mississippi wrote:James VRoy wrote:

Re: Live 55-56: date, please
It seems this one is likely from August 12, 1956 in New Orleans, LA.
Lee Cotten's books are a joy, but often inaccurate. The Jordanaires debut on June 22 or 23 in Atlanta is likely correct.

Re: Live 55-56: date, please
I have to agree with that. I just checked Leviton's photos in Elvis Close Up and though that shot isn't in it and there isn't one with the exact angle that shows a shot of the doors there are enough elements in that paicture that match ones n the book, the color of the walls, tha pattern on the exit doors, the cop and his uniform, the floor light free section of the stage at the edges, Elvis' overall appearance and that mic stand with the wheels. I'm sold on New Orleans on the 12thdrjohncarpenter wrote:

Re: Live 55-56: date, please
Sorry guys, still have too few hours in the day.
Photo # 1 in this thread MIGHT be from the November 56 tour. Either Toledo on Nov 22nd or Troy on the 24th. It's a shame the background is so dark as it might hold the clue to the venue.
Photo # 2, is from Minneapolis May 13, 1956
Photo # 3, I have this filed as New Orleans Aug 12, 56
Photo # 4, sorry guys, you'll have to wait for the SUN-book on this one.
Photo # 5, Shreveport, Dec 15, 1956
Photo # 6, This date has been EDITED. I thought this belonged to Louisville, Nov 25 but Mississippi was kind enough to doubt me. The guitar does not belong to the Nov tour so we'll have to investigate a bit more on this photo.
About the Jordanaires. They were on the ad for the March 13, 1956 Atlanta show. Next we hear about them is for the May 15 show in Memphis and from then on they were more or less regulars.
Sincerely
Brian

When I was a child I was a dreamer,
I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book
And I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie
So every dream I´ve ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.

Re: Live 55-56: date, please
Post has been amended.
At the time, few Presley songs would have lent themselves to backup vocals. For example, the "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" session was still a month away. It's likely March was when Elvis got the idea he would like to use the Jordanaires full-time.
However, Brian, is it correct that the March Jordanaires appearance was as a separate act, and not part of Elvis' stage performance?bripet56 wrote:James, the Jordanaires were with Elvis as early as March 13, 1956 and more or less regulars from May 15.

Very good point Doc. This could very well be the case as they actually do appear as a separate act on the ad as can be seen below. However, Brian, is it correct that the March Jordanaires appearance was as a separate act, and not part of Elvis' stage performance?

Isn't it possible that Elvis brought them back out for backup vocals on "I was the one"?
