Fantastic shots. New to me too. That first one looks like outside where "Poplar tunes" record shop is.

Hi Memphis,

beautiful pics. Many thanks.

Elvis didn't visit his mother. Elvis spent at the St.Joseph's Hospital visiting Ellen Mincey (12 years old). She and her mother were injured in an auto acident the previous day, as they returned home from a picnic to get ready to attend Elvis' performance at Russwood Baseball Park.

Dog? Methinks Spelly jests, that or he needs a trip to the local Specsavers.

One think that leaps out at me is that the dates on the photos are different,

on the first it says Aug & on the other two it says July which makes me think

they were taken at different times.

Btw, those fifties photographers must have had very strong forearms.

I think you'll find that's a football helmet, you know, one of those old fashioned ones.

The dates on the photos refer to the printing date, not the date the photo was taken.

Great shots, all the same.

That first one has Elvis holding the new RCA 1956 portable television set.

It clearly looks black-and-white, Colin. Cool shots, by the way!

I know, but generally speaking they wouldn't put a different date on

two photos from the same film, of course one film could have run out

& been replaced & then the second film could have been developed

a month later, which makes perfect sense to me.

Thats' normally the case and the one I assumed in this instance.

We've had shots from 55 before on here where the date is October on the print but we know from other info it was taken in July.

There is the case as well for a second camera, set with different options on it, but that's normally with pro set ups.

Thanks for that info Mississippi,
I questioned the info that went with that picture, because I had never heard of Gladys having a heart attack. The flicker link username is jlcarroll but I'm not sure if he's the person in the picture or if it's someone named Dennis, who it appears went to Humes and knew Elvis from there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/19197167@N ... 926656145/

How can you tell who is holding the camera? Is there a reflection somewhere in the shots?

Memphis, what marvellous photos.

And Mississippi is most likely right about the dating. I say most likely because I never got the clipping from the newspaper when I did research for my book back in the late 80s - early 90s.

The clipping was in the Memphis Press Scimitar on July 7, page 8 and the headline was "There was her Idol Elvis." At least I believe this muct be the article telling about Elvis visiting Ellen Mincey at the hospital. I'm not 100% sure as only recall this from memory but I have notes of every clipping I got from the papers and this is the one I'm missing. Or maybe I misplaced it somewhere.

Anyway, I thought that you'd like to see a photo of Elvis inside the hospital visiting with the young Ellen MIncey so here you are:
