I'm thoroughly convinced, there are no bad shots of EP from 68-70, none! Thanks again Simon!

Now that's a cool shot

You're all welcome. I'm glad you like them.

Photos are there to be shared with fellow fans, not to be stacked away in dusty private archives :)

Cheers

That shot kicks ass. You can certainly tell it's the early 70 engagement b/c of James' longer hair.

That's EP and the band -- possibly from 1-26-70 OS -- doing the opener, "All Shook Up." COOL!

Man, that is a great image.... Phew! A great instant frozen in time.... oh, to have been there.

Two questions, though, Doc....

1) Did Elvis not wear a black suit at the 1-26 OS performance or am I mistaken?

2) "All Shook Up" didn't have an instrumental break in it, did it? I have a so-so cassette copy of that performance and I don't recall an instrumental in that song....

Elvis is playing an F chord...it appears that Charlie may be as well. This may be Hound Dog as it's in the Key of C and would have a C -> F -> G chord progression during the solo. James also appears to be higher on the neck around where a solo in C would be played instead of around the 5th and 7th frets where a solo in the key of A (All Shook Up) would be played...

Sorry for my nerdness, but such is the life of a guitarist.

Didn't he do "Long Tall Sally" in the key of C? During many shows from that particular engagement, it was the third song on the list while still using his guitar. He would ditch it after this song right before going into "Don't Cry Daddy." His hair is already messed up, so I'm betting it isn't the opening song especially since "All Shook Up" has no F chord in it.

I've always heard that he wore a black suit on opening night, but I've never been sure.

Yes, Long Tall Sally was in the key of C too. Very well could be. Elvis wasn't always known for playing in the right keys during these solos, but I don't think it's a song in the key of A.

Looks like a G chord to me.

Even if it's a G, could still be either song...Hound Dog or Long Tall Sally, but I think his barred index finger on the first fret indicates an F.

Well, it's one of the openers, that's certain.

Agreed, and it sure as hell is a sweet pic.

To ROB

Yep, you are right.
Elvis wore a BLACK jumpsuit for opening show on January 26, 1970.

Wish this picture had been taken from a different angle. Want to see Bob Lanning on drums in concert with Elvis...

Simon1, the photo is FANTASTIC!

What amazes me in those 1969 and early 1970 photos is that there are no mikes for the bass drum! How on earth a thing like that could be?
