Hi Francesc!

When you wrote that you only need a photo from ONE of the Houston shows I simply had to check out your website once more.

There has been a lot of discussion about which Houston photos belong to which show and there'll probably be arguments for a long time yet.

However, the photos for your Feb 27 evening show and Feb 28 afternoon show are correct.

The photos from your Feb 27 afternoon show has to be moved to Feb 28 evening show. These are from the show with an attendance of 43.614. They wouldn't know in advance what the attendance would be and photos show Elvis riding in the car where you see the billboard announcing the record.

The photos from March 1 afternoon are probably right. I say probably because the photos with Elvis riding in the car seem to be too dark to be from an afternoon show. However, it seems odd if Elvis used the same suit twice on the same day.

What we need is someone with some new photos from Houston and that might be hard to dig up.

If you need some photos from San Diego on November 15 I suggest you move the photos from the St Louis show on September 10.

Please take a look at my website http://www.brian56.dk/70tour.htm
I'll see if I can do some more pages so all the photos will be "clickable" and lead to a page for each show like the ones from the September 12 shows.

Sincerely
Brian

Brian,

What will be the correct list of suits Elvis wore in Houston?

My information is
* February 27, 1970. (2:00 pm). White Sleek suit / Original belt
* February 27, 1970. (7:45 pm). Thin Green Leaf suit / Original belt
* February 28, 1970. (2:00 pm). White Ribs suit / Pearl suit belt (ops should be Blue suit)
* February 28, 1970. (7:45 pm). Pearl suit / Original belt
* March 1, 1970. (2:00 pm). Pearl suit / Original belt
* March 1, 1970. (7:00 pm). Aqua suit / Original belt

Skar's information

* February 27, 1970. (2:00 pm). White Sleek suit
* February 27, 1970. (7:45 pm). Thin Green Leaf suit / Original belt
* February 28, 1970. (2:00 pm). Blue Indian Leather Suit
* February 28, 1970. (7:45 pm). Pearl suit
* March 1, 1970. (2:00 pm). Pearl suit
* March 1, 1970. (7:00 pm). White jumpsuit

Paul Lichter's information

* February 27, 1970. (2:00 pm). That's The Way It Is Suit
* February 27, 1970. (7:45 pm). White with green tapestry
* February 28, 1970. (2:00 pm). Blue tapestry suit
* February 28, 1970. (7:45 pm). Beaded Fringe suit
* March 1, 1970. (2:00 pm). On Stage suit
* March 1, 1970. (7:00 pm). White with black tapestry

So what will be your list? Also I realized that I have an error in Feb 28, 1970 (2:00 pm). It should be a blue suit. That I will fix :oops:

Thanks for your time !

One thing I would correct from your site (which is great) are the 1-71 pics. They belong in 8-71

Honestly, I don't think I can give you a complete list of suits from Houston 1970.

Feb 27 (2:00 pm)
Feb 27 (7:45 pm) Thin Green Leaf/White with green Tapestry
Feb 28 (2:00 pm) Blue Broquade/Blue Indian Leather/Blue Tapestry
Feb 28 (7:45 pm) White Broquade/White Sleek
Mar 01 (2:00 pm) White Cossack Top/Pearl suit/Beaded Fringe suit
Mar 01 (7:00 pm)

This is actually as far as I would go at this time. Some of the photographs of the White Cossack Top COULD look like they're from an evening show but then again it could be the lighting in the photographs.

We'll get it right at some point. It'll just take some digging and some new photographs from Houston.

Sincerely
Brian

I guess this is the only difference between yours and mine

Feb 28 (7:45 pm) White Broquade/White Sleek

Besides the ones you don't know. Can you show me the picture that you were talking about the attendance?

Thanks again !

PS and Thanks to Mike to point the mistake in the Vegas pics.

This is exactly the kind of website I've been dying(?) to see: every tour show documented with relevant photos. Of course, Francesc's site has pics, but I find it more useful when looking for actual show data. As for photos, a site and structure like you now have for these 1970 tour shows is just the ticket.

So please expand on this idea. I've been trying find photos for every tour show and have collected what I've been able to find online over the years. I even put some of mine online on a Finnish Elvis forum for the November 1971, June 1973, Sep-Oct 1974, may-june 1976 and February 1977 tours. Of course, I'm not sure of the dates.

As an example, here's the first part of the JUne 1973 tour.

I'm sure I speak for a lot of folks.

Thanks guys, your kind words are very much appreciated. I'll definitely continue working on the concert tours of the 70's as this is a favourite Elvis period although the 50's still remain THE period I'm most interested in.

Here's the photo of Elvis riding in the jeep with the sign telling about the attendance record. This record was set at the evning show on February 28 and this is the only photo showing the sign. I was thinking that it COULD be from the last show and the sign was just telling that the attendance record was 43, 614 but both Joe Esposito, Sonny West and G.G.Gambill wear the same clothes as they do for the afternoon show on Feb 28 . So February 28 evening show it must be.

Francesc, I checked out the new section "New Pictures" on your website and on March 26, 2006 you added some photos from Niagara Falls, June 24, 1974.

Actually only three of the photos are from that date, #s 1, 4 and 5. The three photos were shot by George Hill and being sold by Derek Phillips now.

The other three photos are from Birmingham on December 29, 1976. They're easy to spot by the sideburns.

Sincerely
Brian

The only pictures I know from 2-71 are in the Now suit and both the short and long fringe. He was super skinny in 2-71 with longish hair so that is a clue on dating the pics from then.He may have worn a cisco kid outfit in at the closing show but I don't think they started until either Tahoe or the 8-71 Vegas. They are my favortie outfits so I have been looking up a lot of info on them.
BTW Brian I love your book on Elvis, one of the best.

Speaking of the Houston shows:
I was sifting through a couple of my Sean Shaver books - In Focus and Photographing The King - the other day. These are vitually rip-offs of eachother. For the most part they also contain pictures totally destroyed by some stupid trying to touch them up by painting on them! I suppose it had to be either Shaver himself or that he had someone else do it. The results are horrible, and some of the pics resemble what you get if you ask a child to draw Elvis.

Anyway, both books refer to an incident on "a sunday concert" at the Houston-stand, during which Elvis jumped off the stage and sang while walking in the dirt surrounding the stage. This, however, came to a hasty end when he managed to plant his foot firmly into a big pile of fresh cow dung. According to the books he limped back to the stage, trying every few feet to shake his leg to rid his once white boot - now green - of the stuff.
There also was a picture of him in performing in the gravel, but it's hard to tell which suit he wore. But it looked white and he was wearing a macramè-belt with long tassles.

Thanks to everyone for the information and Photos.

I saw Elvis live in concert the year before he died. Even then, he was bigger than life, and had amazing charisma. Haven't seen anything like it since, ....until Adam.........Nocturnal 2010

Brian: Photos from June 24, 1974 have been fixed.

Thanks a lot to both.

I'll see if I can fix the rest :lol:

Is it this clip from Keith Flynn's site? There's a brief bit during which Elvis seems to be on the dirt.

yeah Scott, that´s the footage I was talking about. Only here we have Elvis out in the dirt during the evening show on February 27 while the photo I posted is from the afternoon show on March 1.

So he probably ventured out in the open field at all six shows.

Elvis sometimes wore "new" outfits at closing shows...he mentions this at the CS in Sept '74 (Desert Storm) though I don't know if he was doing that as early as '71...
