Birdseye view of Graceland

Tue May 08, 2007 12:39 am

I've been looking into MicroSoft's mappoint software for something here at work and was goofing around with the map images again. Here's a birdseve view of the main Graceland propety assembled from a few images

Slow day huh?
Jim

PS, wasn't sure if this should be in the picture section since it isn't one of Elvis.

Oh man, thank you for this picture

Very nice, James. You don't get that perspective on the mansion grounds very often. It may have been a slow day, but I like the shot! Thanks....

Magnificent shots James. I love those views from the air where you see all Elvis' property.

How about coming up with such great shots from his Hollywood homes. I would love to have such great images of his homes out in Los Angeles and Palm Springs ;)

Sincerely
Brian

JamesVRoy, excellent uploads! Very much appreciated your time and enthusiasm! Cheers!

Very cool shots of Ladera Circle, James. Ironically, just today I was reading Sonny West's new book, in which he was discussing life in that house.

Sonny describes it by saying, "the centerpiece of the home was a three-octagon-shaped living room with a 64-foot built-in couch, and freestanding fireplace. Other special touches included an open-air kitchen, gold-plated bathroom fixtures, and the 'coolest' feature was a centralized vacuuming system. Each room had a plate mounted on the baseboard to which a vacuuming attachment was affixed. Then a single machine sucked the dust out of all the rooms simultaneously, making it unnecessary to drag a vacuum cleaner to every room."

A few more addresses:

10539 Perugia Way (Bel-Air)
10550 Rocca Place (Bel-Air)
1174 Hillcrest Drive
285 Via Lola (Palm Springs)

The other address don't show listings, can you confirm them? There is no address showing on Perugia Way for that # and I can't find a Hillcrest drive in either of those cites. The Rocca place was in LA

When "we" lived there no doubt means when Elvis lived there and he was a guest.
Why is Lacker making himself more important than he really was?
Those MM were interchangeable as they had no effect on Elvis' career unlike the musicians without whom Elvis' career would have been quite different.
Imagine there would not have been a Scotty Moore and Bill Black goofing with Elvis on "That's all right" and Elvis' career would not have jumpstarted like it did.

Luuk, do you have to abominate this thread with your dislikes of people here too? Can't you you keep whatever hatred you have for each other over there on AEK? He didn't post here, I did.
I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jim

I just corrected the fact about WE moved. He was no co-owner, just a guest (or hanger-on to be more precise).
By the way if what he said elsewhere, like on AEK, is posted here I feel free to comment on that and correct FACTS.

Luuk, I quoted him to add info to the location of the houses, which was what was in question. That's all that needed to be said about that. I know you're a serious fan and can otherwise share some interesting info when you want but this grudgematch between you is frustrating, annoying and quite frankly more often than not way off topic. Please take it somewhere else.

Getting back on topic,
I've creted some higher detail images of the intial view from the south and a new one from the east.

James, those are real awsome photos.

The photos of 10550 Rocca Place are not showing Elvis' house. On the one looking north Elvis' house is in the lower right corner beside the tennis court. You can just barely see the house.

I don't know if this helps but the other houses are situated at the following latitude and longitude:

1174 Hillcrest, Los Angeles: 34.05.52N 118.23.42W
845 Chino Canyon Road, Palm Springs:33.50.47N 116.33.27W
144 Monovale, Los Angeles: 34.04.56N 118.25.29W

I'll come back with a few more later if this helps.

Sincerely
Brian

Magnificent James.

That's the Rocca Place although another story has been added to the house as you'll see in my photos.

Those are great pix James but I don't think they show neither the Hillcrest nor the Monovale homes.

1174 Hillcrest looks like this, taken from Google Earth
Image

And Monovale looks like this:
Image

Did you use the latitude and longitude that I mentioned earlier??

The house at Via Lola was that the Camino del Norte house in Palm Springs which Elvis and Priscilla rented in 1968 while looking for one to but.

What was that about the Eagle's Nest ?? I must have totally forgotten about that.

Brian

No, I had to use the street address, the app doesn't accept Lat/Long unfortunately. I'll see if I can reconfirm with mapquest

Mapquest doesn't even show a listing for 144 Monovale in LA. Have I got the city wrong?

I sent you a message about the Eagles nest to keep the thread on topic.
Jim

OK, I had the cities wrong, sorry

How about these (not sure though which house is the hillcrest one)

James, you are THE MAN. You got both right.

The Hillcrest home (on 1174 Hllcrest looking West) is the second house on the right side of the road driving up to the very large house in the left side of the picture.

Your pictures are sooooo much better than the images I made by using Google Earth. Best airviews I've ever seen and I, for one, appreciate them very very much.

I'll get back with the Circle G adress when I get back from work and maybe you could look at Audubon Drive in Memphis as well.

Sincerely
Brian
