The Knickerbocker Hotel (Apartments) (now home to senior citizens) 1714 Ivar Ave, Los Angeles. Presley rented Suite 1016 during the filming of 'Love Me Tender' and had the Heartbreak Hotel photo shoot, in one of it's rooms!

What was the Heartbreak Hotel photo shoot exactly ?

Great rare pic of the Knickerbocker Funky!

About the Heartbreak Hotel photo-shoot. I'm not really sure what you mean by that. If you mean that the photo on the cover of the Heartbreak Hotel single (which you posted below) was shot at the Knickerbocker then you're wrong.

The photo on that single was shot by Wertheimer in New York on February 4, 1956 when Elvis was in town for his second Dorsey show.

Thank you for the correction, Brian ! My source (not sauce) was wrong with the information!

If that photo was taken on February 4th, then it's not a Wertheimer photo, Brian. Big Al only photographed Elvis between March 17th and July 4th.

Yeah Tits McGhee, I was not sure if I should write Wertheimer or not.

It's just that the pics I've seen looks soooooo much like Wertheimer and remember that Wertheimer did not write his book until 23 years after he photographed Elvis. He could very well have forgotten about the first time.

Funky, is there any credit to the photo on the Heartbreak Hotel cover??

Unfortunately, there is not. EPE´s book Elvis: his life in pictures has this photo, but no credits are given. Only this wonderful photo caption: "In Paris on leave from the army, c. early 1960.

Thanks for the pic The Fool.
Just shows how much EPE knows about dating photos. This is taken at the exact same spot as the Wertheimer photos when Elvis went out to get some fresh air and meet some of his fans.
The clothes are the same he wore at the 2nd Dorsey show on Feb 4, 1956.
The photos are in typical Wertheimer style but I can't of course swear that he was indeed the photographer. But if not, who took those photographs from Feb 4th Dorsey show??

Fricking EPE, thanks for this splendid photo fellas, now let's somehow solve the mystery of the unknown photographer for this classic EP shot!

A certain Dutch gentlemen tells me they were taken by a CBS staff photographer.

that could very well be Tits McGhee, but wouldn't such a member of the CBS staff have photographed him at more than one occasion. Especially since Elvis got more and more famous with each performance at the Dorsey show.

Just a thought.

Tits McGhee, you might be right about it not being a Wertheimer-photo.

Just found this photo from "The Elvis Collection" card set and it does NOT have the Wertheimer-name on it as all the other Wertheimer-photos in the set has. The photo is from the February 4th Dorsey show and one I thought was a Wertheimer photo, but apparently it is not.

Have you not seen Wertheimer's Elvis At 21 book, Brian? He's very precise about the dates he photographed Elvis. Also, a certain Dutchman tells me that Wertheimer has an amazing memory when it comes to his photos. Apparently he can tell which shots have been published where and which ones haven't.

I've only got the "Elvis 56" Wertheimer book that came out in 1979. He sounded very accurate in that book too. Don't know if this Elvis at 21 is the same in a new edition.

Elvis At 21 is much better than Wertheimer's original book (which itself is a classic of its time). The reproductions of the photos in the new book is totally amazing, and there are some new ones we haven't seen before. In no way is it just a re-hash of Elvis '56.
