Weird necklace! Who is the friend?

Tue Sep 19, 2006 10:29 am

Two questions . . . . Is that man standing beside Presley, Ed Asner?! Anyone have a place and date for this most excellent candid?!

Tue Sep 19, 2006 12:14 pm

The man is a fan from turkey Orosz Janos
I think it is a picture from august 1975

Leroy, would probably give a definitive answer of the date, he would know by the necklace alone. Either way, thanks for the pic!

I would agree that it looks very much like a summer 75 picture, from the length of his hair, and also is facial appearance. I'm not sure who the guy in the photo is, but StayAwayJoe sounded fairly definite about that.

He reminds me of someone else though, who I've seen in other pics. I'll see if I can dig one out...

Yes, that is the photo. Does anyone know if the fake originated in the 70s as part of a magazine story? Also how do we know if the first photo isn't a fake?

Fake...fake...fake...

No,it's not fake,it's original.

Here's the story: a Hungarian musician-couple (Janos Orosz and his wife, Zsuzsa Vadas) worked in Los Angeles in the 70's. The husband was a piano player, the wife was a singer. They have met with Elvis in Palm Springs in '74 or '75. They have taken many colour photos. I have seen 3 (including this one) in a magazine article but there are many more. All photos are colour. The other 2 i have seen depicts Elvis and Zsuzsa Vadas. Zsuzsa is in black top and she's wearing a white shoulder-bag. From memory, there's a cigar in Elvis' hand.
This is everything i know. I've heard the story and seen the magazine article long years ago,so i'm not completely sure in the details. If you want to know more, try to find the author of the book (he's definitely not Turkish!!!),i'm sure he knows more.

I've tried google and have found this link: http://www.barzongorista.hu/index.nof?o ... &k1=3&k2=5

The husband is still living somewhere,he's 80 years old.

Looks like Elvis is also wearing that thin leather necklace Lisa made which is often seen in 1976 shots.

The picture is taken during or just after his August/September 1974 engagement in Las Vegas. The upper necklace is new to me but he is also wearing his Karate/Kenpo necklace. And he's wearing a white karate top as he frequently did during that period.

Otherwise,Attila Selmeczy is a journalist (and Elvis-fan,too.)
He issued that mini book in 1987 for the 10 th anniversary of Elvis' death. Unfortunately i don't own the book, but what i've heard, there are about 30 photos in that. The book won a prize in Wien,Austria and it was reissued in somewhat improved and enlarged edition in '89 or '90. A real rarity.

About the meeting on the party: Elvis asked Zsuzsa to play on the piano and sing something. Zsuzsa choose 'Love Me Tender'. Elvis listened her and after a short time he joined her and they sang the song together! After that there was a big ovation,of course. They have invited him to perform in Europe and he said yes. Of course he did not mean it,he was just polite. They said he was very kind to them, though he didn't know them earlier. This was their only meeting. The couple stayed in te U.S. until about '78 and they were shocked when they have heard Elvis' death.

I also think that the photos were taken in the late summer/early fall of '74,when Elvis was in karate fever and maybe it was in Vegas, but i clearly remember that the article mentioned Palm Springs. Was Elvis in P.S. during this period? I don't have Guralnick's Day By Day book.

I am pretty sure Elvisjock meant the Elvis & Cher photo.

But thanks for the story on the Elvis & fan picture. I was just wondering how you experts can tell that it is not a fake, since it is very similar b/w to the fake Elvis & Cher.

Sorry,Elvisjock,i thought you are referring to the first photo.

Melanie, the Elvis and Cher picture is a well-known fake and we all know that Elvis image was taken from another photo. But in the case of the first picture Elvis image is 'new'. If somebody find an unseen Elvis picture why (s)he would fake it? I saw that picture in much better quality,in colour and also 2 other photos from this meeting and they looked original and the story was credible.
I had several magazine articles about this meeting,if i find them i will scan them to you and you will see all 3 of pictures in colour. Just give me a little time.

No hurry. The problem is unless people know that Elvis & Cher is a fake, they think it is an original. And I was not saying that anybody or you faked the Elvis & fan photo and that it is not an original. I had no idea, that there are color pictures. I was just wondering, what you guys would look for to establish that a photo is a fake, if there wouldn't be a color print or like you explained is the case with the Elvis & Cher. It's not that easy.

Karádytól Elvisig

A vendéglátóhelyeken mindig történik valami. Emberek jönnek és mennek, mini vígjátékok és apró drámák zajlanak le - óránként akár több is. De nemcsak a bárok eseményei izgalmasak, hanem időnként a bárzongoristák élete is kész regény. A Dob utcai zenészházban lakó Orosz János például már egészen korán, a hatvanas években, külföldön próbálhatott szerencsét.

- Egészen pontosan 1962-ben mehettünk először Nyugatra. Először Németországba, a Ruhr-vidékre. Aztán 1970-ben mentünk először New York-ba.

Oroszék New Yorkban Karády Katalinnal tartották a kapcsolatot, majdnem minden nap találkoztak.

Mellette Svéd Sándorral, a világ legjobb baritonistájával is dolgoztunk. New Yorkban hét órakor kezdődött a munka és éjfélig tartott, de néha reggel négyig-ötig ott zenéltünk. Nehéz volt, de megvolt az értelme. A harmadik hónapban már kifizettem a vadonatúj 220-as dízel Mercedest…

Kék ég, napsütés; ráadásul, én teniszőrült vagyok, a kategóriámban ma is versenyszerűen teniszezem.

- Ott, a sivatag közepén, maga a paradicsom.
