This gives a nice 360 degree colour view of the Overton Park Shell.

Seems Elvis and the audience had already left, though !

Boy, those benches don't look too comfortable !

Colin

Thanks.

My head is spinning.

GREAT link, Colin. The benches aren't too bad, just a typical park design. The place seems a little bigger in person.

No prob.

Your comment reminds me of something................

I reckon it must be witchcraft !

James, thanks for posting this outstanding and unbelievable cool shot of EP and the boys!

Very cool link, Colin. Thanks for posting that. By the way, here's a pic taken behind the Overton Park Shell in April. The picture was taken behind the shed on the right side of the stage (as you look at it from the benches).

So has anyone got a scan of the color shot(s) from the shell, like "One is on the cover of the June 2006 MAHM" (whatever that is)?

Jim

MAHM is the Magazine Man And His Music. Don't have it myself so unfortunately I don't even have the colour photo from Overton although I have seen the one with Elvis and the boy.

This is definitely not what you were looking for but I wanted to share my Overton Park pics. I ended up finding an open door.

I was told there was an orchestra pit where the grass in front of the stage is now.

JON -- can you please reduce the size of those images and repost them?

They're HUGE and take up a lot of time and space.

Here's the cover of the June 2006 MAHM:

Perhaps someone can post a larger scan?

The inset photo on the lower left is from Overton in 1954.

It's Elvis backstage with a 5 year-old fan.

I am not sure how to resize?????????????????

That's correct, Jon. I shot some video of it in 1996. The fence wasn't there at that time, allowing you easy access to the stage.

I put a page up on Scotty's site about the picture. I quoted and credited you Brian.

I was at a show at the shell in '02 and they had an impersonater there. There used to be a lrge mural in the back on one of the sides that was partially painted over. I'm not sure if its still there.

Thanks for the credit James. It's such a great and rare find that it simply has to be shared with all and everybody.

James, about the shirts Scotty and Bill wear in this photo. Do you know if there were more than one version of them?

This one looks like it could be black shoulder-front with flower design.

Any idea??

To be honest Brian, I'm not sure but I think there was only the one design shirt. They all had them in the Starlight Wranglers. One of the guys sons actually wrote in and said his dad still had the outfit and was going to send in a picture but never did.

The show lasted from 8:00 - 11:00 and Elvis most often appeared no later than 9:30. Did he ever come back on for a later appearance?? Maybe a question for Joey Kent!

Brain, Joey said "Yes, the show wasn't formally divided in two, so the artist was invited back out later in the show based on popularity with the crowd, etc. Elvis often came back out.
The artist could do several more songs but only one could be a repeat."

Thanks a lot Jim.
Too bad Joyce Railsback didn't stay up and pen down the entire Hayride shows. It would have been nice to know at which shows he came back on as well as who sponsored the segments during which he performed.
Was more than one part of the show sponsored by Lucky Strike? This is a great indicatar as to dating Hayride photos.

Joey said "No. Lucky Strike had the 9-9:30 slot."

Thank a lot Jim.
This helps a great deal in dating some of the Hayride photos that we have.
Now we just need to know at which time Elvis appeared during his 50 appearances at the Louisiana Hayride. Actually, it's a little less than 50 as we can rule out the appearances that were broadcast from somewhere else.
