Sans West/ Hebler protection!

Presley working the crowd, sans the West'/ Hebler protection! A interesting panoramic look at the later entourage appendage/ security team, TCB'ing, during the summer of '76! Date, anyone?

Great pic Funky!
From Syracuse July 25, 1976. First one I see from this show. I got 15 great shots from the 27th and it's clearly the same curtains as in your pic.

Sincerely
Brian

Note Dr. Ghanem in the rear left, behind J.D.

Prescription pad at the ready, no doubt.

If you're Dr. Nick, it would be easy to believe there's no justice in the world. Ghanem was revered in the Las Vegas community, where he wielded powerful influence until the day he died. The scandal surrounding Elvis' death barely touched him.

For the Memphis-based doc, life hasn't been as kind.

Just a question. The person to the far left on the photo...sure looks a lot like Red to me! I agree that the curtains looks similar, but are the curtains owned by the venue or set up by Elvis' road crew, when needed? If set up by the crew it could be anywhere (almost).
The same with the guy in front, probably Sam Thompson, looks like he wears the same shirt as in this photo :

Still looking closely, it looks like there some gold trim on the shirt he wears in the photo you posted...
I guess my point is ...yeah, I had a goal with this long rant :D If that's Red to the left then this aint' Syracuse! So what do you guys think?

Sad to see the King Of Rock & Roll playing in a venue looking like this...when he could' ve rocked the world. Or at least crooned himself across the stages of the world.

You mean the guy to the left of JD? Looks like Donnie Sumner to me, or possibly Sherrill Nielsen. In fact, I think I'd go with Sherrill as it seems the guy is sleeveless, and we all know Sherrill liked to show off his arm definition on stage :)

Anyone notice Diamond (Stay Away) Joe Esposito standing behind Presley' left shoulder, and poor ol' Linda in the back, giving it her all ! elvisjock, thanks for pointing out Dr. Ghanem. I was wondering who he was! Makes you wonder who it is standing behind Al! Who knows, who cares (I do!)? Cheers!

Who is the guy in the yellow shirt?

Sherrill is irritating.

Also in the other photo (link) it looks like Sam Thompson is part of the singing people on stage. Was it usual for them bodyguards to be that close or did it depend on the venue?

Another thing I noticed is, is that Sam and Ed are TCB'ing with the security and the cops (police) are doing jack - sh*t, aka, sweet - f@ck all! The pigs (the cops) should of been facing the crowd doing what they were paid to do, not looking at the stage, enjoying the gig!

Eivind, believe me, the photo is from Syracuse. If looking at concert-pix from different cities you'll quickly notice that the curtains in almost never the same from venue to venue. It could of course happen that two venues had the same curtains but it was never some that Elvis' crew brought along.

Melanie, it probably depended on the stage where the bodyguards stayed during the show. They would of course be nearby IF something should happen and would most often guard the "entrance" to the stage to keep it clear for Elvis' departure.

Sincerely
Brian

A nice shot..
The Syracuse venue didn't have seating behind the stage.. so thats the reason for the awful curtains.
By '76 our man should have been on stage in the UK or whatever, instead of being on this crappy stage in Syracuse..

Check out our mystery man Al Strada and tour producer Charles Stone in this pic..

Ganhem was on the july 76 tour, I think it's the only tour he was present .

No, Ghanem was a part of July and August 1976 tours, until the disaster at the Summit in Houston on August 28. Then Dr. Nick was asked to return, and did so within 24 hours.

You guys (Brian, Doc...) are probably right. i couldn't find the excact dates when Ganhem joined El on tour when responding to the post. I was just puzzled by the guy next to JD. Could be the tenor from hell I guess :D
Always fun to discuss photos, dates etc.
Still, a sad pic in many ways.
