Hi!
Photos from those two shows are very rare. I´ve yet to see one from the shows. I´ve only seen backstage photos.
This one is from St. Louis, MO. on March 29, 1957
And this, I guess, is from Oakland, Ca on October 27, 1957.
Anybody who knows for sure about the last pic??? Anybody got other pix from those two shows?? Both on and off stage??
Sincerely
Brian

When I was a child I was a dreamer,
I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book
And I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie
So every dream I´ve ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.

In the book Revelations from the Memphis Mafia (first edition), there is a photo from this same press conference, and it is credited as coming from Seattle. And underneath it, there is a live photo from the evening performance in Seattle.bripet56 wrote: And this, I guess, is from Oakland, Ca on October 27, 1957.
Where does the familiar photo of Elvis playing Scotty´s electric guitar come from? For a long time, I have thought this is from St. Louis. The photo can be seen in Ger´s Long Lonely Highway book, with an article from the Tacoma News Tribune.

Fool!
You´re great man. After reading your post I opened one of the two photos I have from Seattle. And of course it´s from Seattle. Thanks for dating those interview photos for me.
But now we´re once again looking for pix from Oakland.

... While working on Long Lonely Highway [ 1983-85] I contacted every possible public Library in the towns Elvis had played. 90% replied! I must have tried to get the newspaper reviews of both Keil and Oakland...
...It sometimes happened, the photocopies, made from microfilm, were too poor in quality to read... Could be the reason there not in LLH. And I might have thrown them out...? And I understand, Brian doesnt have them either. And hes got a lot, thats for sure!
... Mr Fool, I think youre right about the molesting Scottys guitar photo: St Louis... though Ive seen it credited: Chicago...?

I wonder what Presley was thinking backstage in St. Louis' Kiel Auditorium, September 10th '70 (second gig into the start of the proper 70's tours, excluding Houston!) He probally thought " . . sh*t I played here back in '57 (March 29th!)"
While you're here check out my good friend Francesc' site, pertaining to the September 10th, '70 St. Louis gig!

I think this photo, which is also on the back cover the old bootleg LP Got A Lot O' Livin' To Do, comes from the April 30, 1957 Jailhose Rock sessions. Its definitely a recording studio and looks to be Radio Recorders. The fool wrote:bripet56 wrote: And this, I guess, is from Oakland, Ca on October 27, 1957.

Yeah Mike, that photo of Elvis playing Scotty's guitar is from one of the Jailhouse Rock sessions at Radio recorders Studio meaning either April 30, May 1 or May 3, 1957.
On April 1, session last from 10 a.m. untill 6:10 p.m.
on May 1 session Elvis walks out shortly after lunch because MGM executives attempts to cut off a gospel jam with the Jordanaires.
May 3 session last from 9 a.m. untill 6:25 p.m.
I have a photo showing a clock on the wall saying 10:35 meaning it could actually be from all three sessions. Same photo shows Elvis at the piano with among others cousin Junior.
Another photo shows Elvis banging on the back of a guitar-case with the Jordanaires around him harmonizing.
So, nothing really gives away which date the pix are from. But at least we got it nailed down to less than a weeks span.
Sincerely
Brian

I'm pretty sure the photo "The Fool" was referring to is the live snap of Elvis on his April 1957 tour, wearing the full gold suit and likely playing "One Night." The shot may be from St. Louis, and I've only seen it in Ger's LLH book.bripet56 wrote:Yeah Mike, that photo of Elvis playing Scotty's guitar is from one of the Jailhouse Rock sessions at Radio recorders Studio meaning either April 30, May 1 or May 3, 1957.

That´s right, doctor! You are right, once again. Of course, I was referring to the photo of Elvis wearing the full gold suit. He only wore the whole damn thing three times in his career.drjohncarpenter wrote: I'm pretty sure the photo "The Fool" was referring to is the live snap of Elvis on his April 1957 tour, wearing the full gold suit and likely playing "One Night." And here is a hint for you, dr. JC: that photo is also in Ger´s book Echoes Of The Past. The one you are still missing. But don´t worry, it´s not that good of a book. But very nice to have. Very, VERY nice.
I will post the photo we are reffering to, if no one does it first.

Here is the pic that Fool was referring to in the first place.
Elvis wore the entire gold suit at least three times.
Chicago on March 28, 1957
St. Louis on March 29, 1957
Toronto on April 2, 1957
He could also have worn the entire gold suit at the following shows:
Detroit on March 31, 1957 maybe evening show, anybody got any pix???
Ottawa, April 3, 1957, maybe evening show, anybody got pix???
Philadelphia on April 4 and 5, 1957, only got pix from 1 of 4 shows
Sincerely

Brian you are correct on the dates the Gold Suit was worn.
In regards the other dates I think he wore the following:-
Detroit 31 March.. the Gold Coat/Black Trousers
Ottawa 3 April...Black suit/white shoes
.......................Gold Coat/Black trousers
Philadelphia 4/5 April... Black suit/white shoes
I wonder if you have those pictures especially 3/4/5th April with the white buckskin shoes Brian. I have seen one only, maybe that is the one you are referring to, but the feet were always cut off?
I will have to research alittle deeper

Bob, where do you have the info that Elvis wore black trousers in Detroit??
At the press conference prior to the show he was dressed in blue shirt and trousers and changed into his gold jacket, gold shoes and gold string tie for the first show. Wouldn´t this mean he wore the blue shirt and trousers at the afternoon show?? You got any info or photos on his clothes for the evening show??
In Ottawa he wore his gold jacket over a black shirt and trousers. At least at one of the shows. You got info or photos from the other show??
Philadelphia should of course be April 5 and 6. Here Elvis wore a black suit over a black velvet shirt and white socks and buckskin shoes. You got any info or photos from the other three shows in Philly???
Sincerely
Brian

Ted G. Abel writes this on liner notes for the A Canadian Tribute album:
During his first show (in Toronto), pandemonium broke out when his musical gyrations caused the seams in his now famous gold pants to give out.
Lee Cotten writes this in his book Did Elvis Sing in Your Hometown?:
This was the final time that Elvis wore the full gold suit. The inseam of his gold pants split during the show, and he never wore the full gold regalia again.
I know that there are many factual errors in Lee Cottens concert books. But nevertheless this raises the question whether the pants were repaired for the Ottawa and Philadelphia shows. Or was the first show in Toronto the last time the full gold suit was worn?

Well Fool, I bet that Lee Cotten used the liner notes from "A Canadian Tribute" when writing his notes about Elvis splitting his gold trousers.
I just went through all my reviews from Toronto, and NOWHERE, is it mentioned, that Elvis split his seams. I guess that would have made headlines back then. I have several reviews and nobody mentions anything about it.
However, I found out that the photo of Elvis playing Scotty's guitar is in fact from Toronto. One of the pages holds 11 photos from the show where he is dressed all in gold and two of the photos shows him plying Scotty's guitar.
Sincerely
Brian

Brian
Of course the dates were the 4/6th..must watch what I am writing.
At the press conference Elvis wore his RED SUEDE jacket as well.
For both Ottawa shows he wore Gold coat/black trousers/black shirt.
I have no dated pictures from both shows just pictures as seen by most fans from the Canadian books/magazines.
The Evening Bulletin(Philadelphia I assume) stated that he wore the Black suit, but did not give details of each show. How awful of them...
Brian, maybe you can post the picture you have for me to see, as I stated before I have only seen a picture that has Elvis' feet cut off?
regards bob
