Wow! And to think that this is the same guy who'd go on to record 'Yoga Is As Yoga Does' and then play to middle-aged women with blue hair in Vegas whilst wearing a clown suit covered in rhinestones...

Why did it happen ?

It's one of the great mysteries of the 20th century.

Hi all!

Please note that the photo is reversed.

The text says that the pix are from Columbia, S.C. May 1956 which is incorrect. Elvis played Columbia only once, in March and that was at an indoor concert.
Only outdoor place I can come up with would be at the College Park in Charleston, S.C. on June 28, 1956.

Sincerely
Brian

Doc,

I've had a go but someone with better equipment may be able to do a better scan.

Brian,

Are you sure it's 1956? Flatbed truck, Cadillac etc? Could be 55?

Delboy!

Well, I can´t be 100% sure the pix are from Charleston, S.C. on June 28, 1956 but they are definitely from the summer of 1956. I don´t have a review of the Charleston show so I don´t know if he played on asome sort of platform but he did play on a stadium platform in Phoenix, Az on June 9. I think this is some sort of stadium platform as well, not a flatbed truck. In Phoenix he also jumped from the platform and got down on his knees on the grass.

4 of the pictures are reversed on the auctio-website as well as on thisite. The one initially posted by The Fool as well as number 1, 4 and 5 of Delboy´s.

In The Fool´s initial pic the serial number on the platform can be read as S.F. 13209. I thought that this could MAYBE mean State Fairgrounds. Elvis played the State Fairgrounds in Phoenix but wore a red knit shirt at that show. Looks like he is wearing the brown and white sports shirt he used on the Steve Allen rehearsal on June 29. The shoes are also the same as the ones he wore on June 29.

So, all in all, I am willing to bet quite a lot that the pix are from Charleston, S.C. on June 28, 1956.

Sincerely
Brian

That pic of Elvis under the rolling contraption is great! Some mention of it being reversed? Don't quite understand but I rescanned it inside and out and it's a strange pic indeed.

It's got to be '56 - look at the outfits Scotty and D.J. are wearing.

This one is too cool to believe. Imagine it blown up as a big poster on your wall!! Thank you Dellboy for bringing this auction to our attention... whoever gets the final bid will be one lucky fan.

Thanks to Brian too, for dating them... If you are prepared to bet a lot of money on your date, I am prepared to believe you. :D

this is elvis at his best! not 1974-1977! the young ep over elvis at 40-42.
he has more to give here than in the 74-77 era.
i'd take this era anyday.

Some sensational shots there, very atmospheric too !

Second to the fabulous 'kneeling on the grass' photo, I also very much liked this one .........

I composed a 'zoomed' segment of the photo (below).

Too bad the pix will probably be sold to some collector with big money who´ll stack them away in his precious collection and we´ll never get to see them in great quality.
