Did you know that as early as in his Audubon Drive days Elvis had several animals.
In late October 1956 Elvis considered buying a farm near Memphis, "probably in Mississippi," he said. His latest acquisition was a pair of burros, which Col. Tom Parker had sent as a gift from somewhere in Texas. Elvis had laughed at a suggestion that he stabled them with the Cadillacs. Instead he had them boarded out with a friend who had a farm. At this time Elvis already had a pomeranian dog, named Sweet Pea, and a monkey called Jimbo ("Gosh no, I can't play with him, he's a mean little dickens," Elvis said.)
On March 26, 1957 when Elvis signed the papers for Graceland Elvis' father said:
"we'll have plenty of room now," and that they intended to have their two burros on the property along with their new miniature French poodle, Duke, which they brought from California, their Pomeranian, Sweetpea, and Elvis' two pet monkeys, Jayhue, a black fuzzy monkey which he recently got, and Jimbo.
By August 1, 1957 he even had at least one horse. "We're going to haul our horses in it, "Elvis said to Carrol Daves when he bought himself a one-ton truck with a nine-foot bed.
Here are a few pix of some of those early furry friends. If you have any other pix of Elvis early foru-legged friends please post.
