Little Sister, thanks for those gate shots! One thing I'd always thought interesting was the "Elvis-figure" design on the gates - notice how the pants look like the bellbottom 70s flared pants, and the sideburns are bigger like they'd be in the 70s.. I hadn't seen any 50s gate shots in awhile and wondered if the figures had been there all along or if they came later.
Now that I see them, I remember, but thanks for the brain sweep , I needed that!

But I actually don't think that these four where taken on the same day as the previous ones. The shirt looks different, and he doesn't seem to be wearing the medalion on the previous ones, and the hair is a bit different. More messy on these. What do you think?
One of the things I really like about being an Elvisfan is getting to know and getting a greater respect for our history, and for people from other generations. Elvis just has a way of bringing so many different people together. I love it!! I'll do my best with the photos. I love reading all of your posts, they are always full of fun information that is not well known. So please, keep THEM coming!!
I'm very much interested in knowing what the sign (on the left) said! Also, notice how the brick fence (over on the right) originally curved in - wards! (Was it then knocked down and straighten up to the road!)

I will try and get some time to post the other photos tonite!!
Jamie - I have always felt that the gates show a caricature of the 50's Elvis. And to be honest, in the 70's he was a caricature of himself. So although I am all conspiracy theories otherwise, I don't believe in this one.
Funky - I would think that the sign says something like "Autographs hours 5 PM- 6 PM. I know that he had that sort of sign when he was in Germany, so it is probable that he had one up when he was at home in Graceland too.
Brian - LOL I don't want to stop you from getting your sleep. But.... hehe... I expect your help!!
Have a good one everyone!!

Looks to me like it might just be the way the sun is hitting that side of the pillar or the angle that the photo was taken at. It looks so different without the gate house. It looks so big, I can only imagine how Vernon and Gladys must of felt.

Hope my pix comes thru here.
The first two shows front in Aug 57, second one in Feb 75. As you can see there is a pillar on the inside of the wall. The gate house would be built in that corner.
Sincerely
Brian

When I was a child I was a dreamer,
I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book
And I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie
So every dream I´ve ever dreamed has come true a hundred times.

I always thought that all the gate pictures were taken at the same time, but after seeing them all together, I'm not so sure. It looks like he's wearing a solid color shirt in the medallion picture, the other three look like it's the striped one.bripet56 wrote:You´re quite right Little Sister. I couldn´t see the medallion on the color pix and wanted to see if it was visible on the one with arms outstretched. Although it is only visible in one off the gate-photos it looks like a diffrent shirt as you point out although the description of the clothes seemed to fit perfectly on the color ones.
Sincerely
Brian

That picture is from Januray 8, 1958. Apperantly Elvis kept the girl waiting for two hours before coming downstairs to meet her. I think I have one more picture of this meeting back home, I will look when I get home.
Great photos Brian!! Thank you very much for sharing.

I was right, I had one more photos Elvis together with the March of Dimes-girl.
Also, some more info. Courtesy of AP WIREPHOTO.
"8-year-old Mary Kosloski of nearby Collierville,TN, the 1955 March Of Dimes poster girl. She stopped by Elvis' home to express appreciation for the trunk load of toy teddy bears he sent to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis to be auctioned off to raise money for the March of Dimes, which opened Jan. 3. She found Elvis celebration his 23rd birthday. If he seems leaner, its due to a diet that has dropped his usual 180 pounds to 160 on order from Hollywood."

Great pix Little Sister,
# 4 is with Teddy and Doyle Wilbuirn of the Wilburn Brothers who often played on same shows as Elvis in 1955.
# 5, man in the middle is Faron Young, man at far right is Tom Perryman who booked Elvis on many shows in east Texas in 1954-1955.
Sincerely
Brian

Re:
Sorry to bring this old thread back into life, and thought this was the best place,as mentioned above by Brian,I came across the uncropped version. It is slightly different though.bripet56 wrote:Please, Little Sister, let me get to bed now
I only have the same cropped part of the pic as you posted, don´t know any date but would guess late 1957, maybe December.
But only guessing

Re: Graceland candids '57!
Thanks for bringing this thread back davide. Brings back a lot of fond memories from when the time Little Sister was here. I miss that girl.
Seems like you also copied all those thumbnails from that auction a couple of yours ago. The man to the far left, is he a police officer or some kind of military man??
Sincerely
Brian

Re: Graceland candids '57!
I'd been wondering where we got the 'Teddy Boy' look from in the UK, with the greasy DA hair, velvet collar, long jacket & crepe sole shoes !
[Trouble is, that look preceded this photo by two or three years !]
