Tallhair AKA Ger Rijff, thanks for the reply! Here is another batch!

Filmed developed, Aug '57!

I gotta quit my job and concentrate on this message board. It´s so much more fun

Thanks Ger for pointing out date for # 12.

I bet Hal Wallis, Debra Paget and Elvis are watching Elvis´screen-test in Wallis´ private screening room.

Maybe I should do a behind-the-photo site on those Million Dollar Quartet photos from Dec 4, 1956. Watch for it this week-end.

Yeah, I have that date for the last 4 pics at home. Well, I just had to call home and get my daughter to look up the photos on the pc. They´re from Memphis September 13, 1957.

These look like pictures from Texas in mid-October 1956, especially #21.

I am at work now, steeling some computertime from a co-worker of mine. Just wanted to let you guys know that I appreciate your help on dating my photos. Brian, I had just gone off to bed when you posted the message... I didn't think anyonbody would have the energy to try and date the photos in the middle of the night. But you did!! 8) Thanks!! :D

I too, am really happy about the discussions that have been taking place the last couple of weeks. I so appreciate the expertise of Brian and Ger (and everybody else ready to help out)... and am just glad to be able to share my photos with the people that might not have seen them before.

Funky - great photos (as usual  ). I especially enjoyed the 1957 Audubun shot... I don't think I have ever seen a photo of Elvis at his Audubon home from that year... Also the unknown 1955-photo. I would love to see them both dated.

I better get back to work now (well actually I need to get something to eat)... and then it is off to the city. I'll miss this board though, but I'll be looking forward to all the new photos that will have been posted by then! :D

Thu Mar 02, 2006 2:28 pm

Man, wish I could just win a million so I could stay home and answer all the messages here

Don´t have the photos here so will get back in about 4-5 hours answering some questions.

Funky, that Tampa photo is from July 31, 1955. Elvis didn´t get that leather cover for his guitar until during his July 1955 vacation. However, I believe the other photo is from the May 55 show in Tampa.

Well, gotta get some airplanes in the air. The weatherman promises it´ll stop snowing now. We´ve had snow since December 26. MOst snow we´ve had here in at least the last 20 years.

Funky, thanks for the kind words about my postive input. And I wholeheartedly concur with what Doc and Brian said about leanring new info and the joy discussing these photos. And, as always, its so much fun when we have Ger to bounce ideas off - I love his sarcasm on the all Elvis Board, such as Sgt. Bilko's use of the Calmbake and Speedway outtakes.:)

Okay, onto the photos.

Funky, I believe that photos 4-8 are from Florida, first or second week of August 1956. They are from either the Jacksonville or Tampa dates - August 6th-9th, 1956. Most can be found on the Flashback FTD book, especially the one where Elvis' pants leg is missing.

Photo 9, I believe is from the June 30, 1956 as he was being measure for the tux for the Steve Allen show. The checkered shirt is the key identifer for me. BUT, I am at work and don't have my books handy. Can some of the people I mentioned above confirm?

Thu Mar 02, 2006 6:47 pm

Great pix Funky!

San Antonio wasn´t the last show before Elvis went to Las Vegas. He played Antonio on April 15, then went to Corpus Christi, Waco, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Ft. Worth and Houston before he opened in Vegas on April 23.

Cleveland Nov 23, 1956 is absolutely correct. I´ve always loved the one in the middle.

# 1-5 are from August 56 tour of Florida, Miami Aug 3-4. At least the on stage pix are from Miami. Different stage lights in Jax and none in Tampa.

# 6 from July 1, Steve Allen rehearsal.

#7, Around March 1955. That´s Elvis´ 1954 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 Special NOT his 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 Speciel.

Let me get this straight--you do all this Elvis-related stuff at the same time you're an air traffic controller?! That confirms it--you DA MAN!

Doc!

About # 20-21 that were discussed earlier in this thread.

Those two photos have something to do with Elvis getting a Canadian award pronouncing him "Le Plus Populaire de 1956" I´m most certain he got this award at the Ed Sullivan show in January 1957.

#20 may be from Jan '57, but #21 looks much more like Elvis from Oct - Dec '56. Just compare the Nov '56 pics above to #21. Also, his hair was dyed black by the time of his third "Sullivan" appearance, and #21 sure looks like his natural color.

Doc, # 21 is the one I´m most certain is from January 1957. Don´t get fooled by the photo being in a brownish-color.

I will look forward to seeing your site on the Million $ quartet photos. A few years back I put together a few page with comments from Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and JLL on their recollections from that day. Unfortunately it's not a very professional page and it's hosted on geocities :( here's the link if you are interested: http://www.geocities.com/eefiles01/

The only thing I am sure of, is that the last photo is from Memphis (the needle shot is a definate maybe!) All the other shots are from Hollywood! The one thing about these images is that Elvis looks like he is wearing the same shirt! I have no images of Elvis wearing the cap, whilst he was home (in those Memphis shots!) bripet56, L/S, Tallhair AKA Ger Rijff, can anyone of you help me out here! Thanks in advance! Cheers!

It was in NY for Sullivan, but January 5 or 6, 1957, not 1956.

Hi again!

Lots of great pix to discuss.

Funky, you dated most of your own pix yourself. In the batch that starts with Dec 15, 1956 pic the 4th one from 1958. Date is March 12, 1958 at farewell party after completing King Creole.

The next pic wher Col. Parker is saluting Elvis is from December 21, 1957, same date as the Opry photos. Great pic, by the way. Never saw that one.

Next comes the batch of 6 photos of Elvis wearing the short-sleeved black/white/red shirt.
#1-4 are from Hollywood, LMT-period, probably just before he got home for the Tupelo show.
# 5, Sorry Doc, you´re wrong on this and Tallhair is right. The photo is from October 27-28, 1956. NY. Photo is from same date as the rehearsal of the 2nd Ed Sullivan show as well as press conference. The background in the rehearsal is the same as on Oct 28 show. Very different from January show.
# 6, is from September 23-28, 1956 when Elvis was back in Memphis for his Tupelo show.

Memphis!

Sat up last night looking for my clipping for the MIllion Dollar Session and couldn´t find them. Will be looking once more. I know they´re supposed to be here, somewhere.

In the meantime I´m doing a behind-the-photo story on a game of touch football in which Elvis participated on December 27, 1956.

Is this the same day Elvis got the tiny Ietta (sp?) sports car?

Good God, yes. I should not stay up so late at night visiting the MB.
