Even the biggest names in Hollywood and the music industry were very quickly humbled when they came face to face with Elvis Presley.

He was ELVIS!! We don't have Sonny West or Jerry Schilling
message boards. Well, not too many of them, anyway!! Everyone in
his/her day wanted to be photographed with him!! Even if he made them
look less than singular!! They wanted the world to know that ELVIS was a friend of theirs!
He was stunning!!! He was brilliant!!! He could sing,
dance, act (kind of), and he looked like no one else!! He also had a
marvelous sense of humor. I think if they played up his sense of humor
more, the kids of today would be able to identify with him much, much
more!! He was a great "giver." He could also be a great "taker." But I
think he gave us ALL much more than he took. (I know, Steve, you don't
agree with this statement!) He had a presence that no one could top!!
Well, maybe some of our religious figures, but for a mortal, he was the
Sorry to get on a soapbox. Also, I think you are saying "looks aren't
everything" but with Elvis, I don't think anyone could argue that he was
beautiful!! With talent!!
Why do people put on these giant pictues that make us go back and hit
return so people can read what we say?? Why doesn't this board restrict
the space devoted to the width of each picture?? Oh well, I can't do pics,
so I guess it's just sour grapes from me!!
Well, if it's JLGB's pics, it's okay with me!!!!!!
Carolyn - I just re-read your post and I think maybe I misunderstood.
Maybe you meant that no matter what, when Elvis was there everyone
just naturally were relegated to oblivion, and right or wrong, that's the way

Goodness, how did you meet those people who actually knew Elvis? You
live in Australia. I live in California, where he was so often, and I have
never met ANY of them!! I have met Stanley Kramer's aunt who was the
mother of Joseph Lewis, who wrote for Time magazine. I saw Ann Blythe
once at a department store. I once met the guy who had a Stratevarius (sp?) violin and
studied with Jascha Heifetz (sp?).I saw the kid who played Spin in Spin and
Marty (Mouseketeers!). I never really knew or spoke with any of
them except Mrs. Lewis. I would dearly love to meet someone who actually
knew Elvis!! Maybe I will persuade my husband to go to Graceland in '07!!
Well, my librarian here lived in Memphis and used to see him around town.
And, I know that half the people here don't even know the people I mentioned!!
