Re: Wearing "Elvis for president" hat
Yup. Maybe such straw hats became popular that summer because Republican President Richard Nixon had resigned in disgrace at the beginning of the month. The next U.S. election for that job would not happen until November 1976.Mr. Black on Sun Apr 22, 2018 3:33 am wrote:Vegas, August 1974?

Very cool picture. I've always heard that EP had no political ambitions, but he probably wouldn't have had any trouble getting elected! LOL

Regarding no political ambition, like he joked after announcing he was running for President during the March 1976 Charlotte show, 'running the other way'lovin' EP on Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:06 pm wrote:Very cool picture. That appears to be the same foam hats that they used for the Summer Festival promos but with just a different printed band.

Yeah, "naughty." The only president in the history of this country to resign in office. Although that may change.Mr. Black on Sun Apr 22, 2018 3:37 pm wrote:Ah, yes, the naughty Nixon.drjohncarpenter on Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:23 pm wrote:Yup. With public pressure growing, the House passed a resolution giving formal authority to its Judiciary Committee to launch an impeachment inquiry in February. By August Nixon knew he had to leave or would be impeached for breaking the law.
Articles of impeachment considered by House Judiciary Committee
Article I: Obstruction of Justice - Passed 27–11
Article II: Abuse of Power - Passed 28–10
Article III: Contempt of Congress - Passed 21–17

Anyway, this had to be the reason Elvis was handed that hat while performing at the Hilton in August 1974.

Re: Wearing "Elvis for president" hat
These leather suits were a nice change from the jumpsuits. As a jumpsuit fan, I even like these suits. If I remember correctly they were actually gifts to Elvis. A nice look at that time.jurasic1968 on Mon Apr 23, 2018 5:22 am wrote:Again, I want to repeat myself: he looked great in this white leather suit.
