What exactly is probation?

As we now have this section, could one of the mods explain to us what probation is, and what it means in practical terms for those marked as such?

Very good question @poormadpeter2

We have added to the guidelines post with an explanation. Which is at the bottom:

What's the deal with colorizing the member's login name when placed on probation? The stamp isn't enough?

The original question dates from Feb. 12. I'm guessing he was on probation at the time he asked and now he's suspended.

He isn't suspended anymore. The stamp is still there, though.

What does a feller have to do to get suspended around here???

I've tried everything and I'm getting damned tired of being ignored!

Not really. A person who is clearly still suspended has made several posts in the last few days. So what exactly does suspended mean If a person can still post? Its confusing

I'm guessing that the two week suspension is up, and the moderators simply haven't removed the tag from the profile yet. I've seen it here a lot.

I've been suspended for 2 weeks, without a single warning and no one is able to explain . Or willing to .
Very strange behaviour

The member with pink lettering with the username "matilda" , wants to be contacted by a moderator. She has told me at least a dozen times, that her attempts have been futile with no answer. I will not go with any further details publicly.

We are investigating the problem, as it seems some of the people on probation have no trouble PM'ing us while others do.

I have never been on probation, the topic wasn't about myself.

All you have to do is ask someone more than once for proof of an outlandish, incorrect statement, and voila!

Oh now THIS is an improvement - time stamps so you don't have to wait to make an extra reply. Now you can ask someone for proof of an outlandish incorrect statement twice in five minutes!
