from the start to the finish and as we are still getting new releases of old stuff and concert releases in soo much better sound, Elvis may not be rockin anymore he is in my mind and in my pocket. Thanks FTD and SA, TOUCHDOWN, VENUS, and the others who are releasing Elvis. 53-77 were the best but i have enjoyed the time since 82 when i became a fan til this day and can't wait for the next years.

he maybe gone but never forgotten.

I love it all, from start to finish. Call me an apologist if you will, but there are maybe 20 or 30 Elvis songs that I simply cannot listen to (songs, not performances, mind you...there are plenty of bad performances, nearly all from the concert years). The rest fall on a spectrum from "like" to "absolutely love."

If I'm honest, though, I tend to listen to the 60s stuff the most. It has my favourite albums (Something For Everybody and GI Blues), the guilty pleasure soundtracks (though I don't feel guilty in the slightest for loving them), my favourite Elvis live performance by far (Hawaii 61), the ultra-cool singles that closed out the decade (all the way from Big Boss Man to Kentucky Rain), those stunning ballads (Indescribably Blue, Something Blue, It Hurts Me)...

I agree with Doc Carpenter - from 1953 till 1977 - or, in other words (like Mister Mike said) from SUN to Sundial

My assumption stated in my OP still stands it seems. Most - for those who have made a choice - prefer the 70's over the 50's. Hence the reason 70's related topics get more attention than 50's related topics on this forum.

Score at this moment:

Pre fame: 2 people (5 %)
50's: 6 people (16 %)
60's: 12 people (32 %)
70's: 18 people (47 %)

And quit a few people go for the whole active period: 1953-1977. They didn't choose I guess. Also an option.

I voted the '50s. While I do love the '70s and seeing Elvis on Tour made me a fan for life, 1954-1958 produced the best music of Elvis' career, imo.

Regarding such polls, in the domain of sociology it's a chapter studied in faculty called "The definition of a representative opinion in polls and the real circumstances the study is made". It analyzes the objective and subjective factors of the main question.

Hi there!! :D :D :D.

The 70´s is not my favourite Elvis era, but I´m glad for those that voted for it, I respect that ::rocks. Elvis was still lean, mean and kickin´butt around that time! 8). Bye for now :smt006.

Absolutely !

I'm not totally ignorant of everything he did in the 60's & 70's because he did make some great music. The early 60's produced fine music and the latest 60's - 68/69 was very cool. I have never rated the jumpsuited Elvis - apart from a dozen good tracks in the 70's, personally his music in the 70's was worse then that of the 60's - the songs sucked, the live concerts sucked, Felton Jarvis sucked and the jumpsuits sucked. The 50's will always win out for me - the most creative period of his whole career.

1968 to 1975. 1976 and 1977 I have trouble going near. he stopped looking cool. There were still a bunch of good shows in 1976 but I have trouble listening to the slurred speech and such.
