Elvis hadn't signed anything at the time, his March 1958 army induction killing all opportunities. It's possible it was a considered project before management and singer agreed to Paramount's "King Creole."

It was a remake of the 1947 film noir "Kiss of Death," and ended up being released in the summer of 1958 as "The Fiend Who Walked the West."
