Goodness, this is like a broken record. Once again you share with FECC another vintage magazine, filled with great (and some "new") images and interesting, pertinent information. Thank you, as always.

May Mann, of course, is the longtime Hollywood gossip scribe who wrote glowingly about Elvis for years and years, and thus got access to him many others did not. But the information she provides is of value to those who follow the history. Given what Elvis told May during their interview, we can now confirm he saw the Bobby Darin show at Hollywood's Cloisters on Saturday, May 7, 1960, shortly after starting "G.I. Blues" for Paramount on Monday, May 2. That's cool.

Darin opened on Thursday, April 28:

The Cloisters nightclub was located on 8588 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, CA. It took over from the Mocambo restaurant and nightclub, which closed in 1958.

It's interesting to learn how much Elvis appreciated Milton Berle ("He is a friend.") and that he saw Berle's act at the Cocoanut Grove, and also checked out Jerry Lewis at the Moulin Rouge. Clearly, Presley was getting back into the swing of things in late April-early May 1960.

Note: Freddy Martin and His Orchestra, Elvis worked with him at the infamous New Frontier booking in April 1956 ... the Grove was Martin's home base for many years.

Did you notice in the article Elvis called friend Lamar Fike his "cousin"? Also, I'd never heard of him dating actress Kathleen "Cathy" Case. Apparently they caught a movie in November 1957, just before Elvis went off to Hawaii to give his final three concerts of the decade, and maybe dated some more in early 1958. Reports are that Cathy was his date at the Jerry Lewis show at the Moulin Rouge, mentioned above. Case sadly passed away at 45, back in 1979.

All more pieces of the puzzle! Thanks again.

Great article. Thank you for posting. It is hard to imagine if they had stayed with the title of Flaming Lance instead of Flaming Star what the lyrics to the to the title song would have sounded like. The Black Star version was hardly an easy flowing lyric.

My pleasure. I love to dig into these articles, research what new information they suggest, put it all together and share it with every good member of FECC.
