Why Elvis Can´t Sleep Nights
By Ernie Helfand

A nice article detailing Elvis´ charitable work in Memphis and Tupelo. But what´s this Enough Rope movie for 20th Century Fox?

Thanks for the share, I somehow missed this when you originally posted it!

SOME THOUGHTS AND ADDITIONAL PHOTOS

So nice to see the September 1957 Memphis TV station appearances clearly identified, along with some of the other people who were there. Ernie Helfand's article provides great details, too, including a quote or two from the broadcasts!

-----

About that "new movie" for 20th Century-Fox:

Elvis hadn't signed any new movie deals at the time, his March 1958 army induction killing all opportunities. It's possible "Enough Rope" was a project under discussion around the time management agreed to do Paramount's "King Creole." The article here in Movie Life appears to have been written circa November 1957.

"Enough Rope" was a remake of the 1947 film noir "Kiss of Death," and it ended up being released in the summer of 1958 as "The Fiend Who Walked the West":

I LOVED the bonus "Dateline Hollywood" page about Elvis and Anita Wood being "washed up" (not yet!) and Sy Devore and Saul Meadows' Halloween/Birthday party, including the photos, all likely taken by Hollywood celebrity photographer Earl Leaf.

* venue became "Lucey's New Orleans Restaurant" in August 1959.

Given that "Dateline Hollywood" page, it is clear that the party did not happen at Devore's house. All of my research indicates it was held at either Meadows' Beverly Hills home (as noted in the magazine) or Lucey's Restaurant in Los Angeles (as noted in Getty Images).

I posted this NEW information on FECC a while ago.

Finally, I noticed the great photo of Elvis on the Graceland porch in April 1957 is reversed, so here's the correct view:
