Elvis Cutout Rocks

A life-sized card board cut-out of Elvis Presley will be featured in the exhibit, "What Were They Thinking: 160 Years of Bad Taste" at Cape May's Carriage House Gallery on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. What was the height of fashion in grandmother's day draws snickers from her granddaughter. From hoop-skirted ladies and the tendency to ornament the ornaments so popular in the Victorian era, to the 1950s beehive hairdos and tailfins, to today's over-the-top bling and pocketbook dogs, this exhibit looks at how styles change as the times do.

The free opening reception will be on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. The exhibit, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, will run through November 8. The gallery is open daily; hours vary. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children (ages 3-12), or free with any tour of the Physick Estate. For information call (609) 884-5404 or visit http://www.capemaymac.org.
