I was sure I had already posted that above. I must be more tired than I thought :?

No worries. Hope you enjoyed the topic. Anita was a special person in Elvis' life.

Yes, she was (is) lovely.
What my post (which I seem to have lost on the way) said was that Priscilla was probably more malleable than Anita, being younger and not having a career...Elvis wanted a stay-at-home gal, not a career girl, and was being indecisive: As you said, Anita overheard him saying he was torn between them and decided for him, by leaving.

I aim to.
I like learning more about Elvis, and the detailed knowledge available through posters on here, down to details of single concerts, constantly amazes me ...

Don't forget the Anita Wood / Robert Goulet connection!

Image
ML: Elvis harbored some bad feelings about Goulet from back in the late 50's when he was in the army. Elvis' girlfriend Anita Wood was a singer and she did shows with Goulet and Buddy Hackett. Anita would often write Elvis in Germany and one time Goulet added a post script to one of them telling Elvis in a sly way that he was personally taking care of Anita. Elvis didn't like that and he never forgot so when he saw Goulet on TV, he shot the TV out.

This is a very informative and great reading, of course I know about Anita Wood as Elvis girlfriend but I didn't know a lot about her, like that she was a great singer and seems to have make records for a variety of record labels and not only Sun
records, I always tought that her Sun recording was a Sam Phillip gimmick due to Elvis over seas military duty.
Is the a way to get a complete discography for all the recording she made?

Thank's Doc for great reading!!

According to Jerry Osborne's "Rockin' records" reference guide Anita Wood recorded for Sun (1961) and Santo (1963-1964).

There's one more site with information, according to google, but I cannot reach it:

This is incorrect. Anita left Elvis almost on the spot when she overheard him discussing his concern about choosing between Anita and his German paramour. She made the choice for him. She left, and did not return. Anita had pride, and she used it.

I hope you enjoyed the entire topic, as hundreds already have.
I understand that, but my point was Elvis didn't care. She left, but he let her go.

At that time he was dating alot of woman.

He leaves for Germany and Anita is supposed to be his "love".

But he dated some German women.

He meets Priscilla. Anita finds out about it.

Anita didn't stop her life because I think she knew Elvis was not that into her.

Then when Elvis gets back to Hollywood he starts dating starlets like Nancy Sharp, etc.

But the pics of Anita with dyed black hair(1961?) with Elvis are sometime after the first leaving IIRC.

But yes, Elvis was not going to leave her. He rarely "left" anyone. He would just keep 'em dangling for as long
as they stuck around. Each one had to finally make the choice and leave ELvis.

That's what i meant when I said he let her go. He didn't try to stop her and fight it. She left, and he dated who ever was next in line.

Besides how could he really demand Anita not date, while he was in Hollywood for 6 months out of the year, do what ever he wanted.

I appreciate the post Doc (as so many others of yours).

Nice, informative read of a topic I have to confess I knew very little about.

And his grandmother. Dodger was fond enough of Anita that she still had a framed picture of her in her bedroom when UK fan club president Albert Hand visited Graceland in the mid-60s. I don't think that was the case for any other girl Elvis had dated. Anita clearly made quite an impression.

Good job on the original post.

Thanks Doc for great reading!!

You're most welcome.

All of Anita Wood's recordings, labels and dates I could locate are on page 1, including her uncredited vocal on Andy Williams' top ten 1959 hit.

Luuk wrote:According to Jerry Osborne's "Rockin' records" reference guide Anita Wood recorded for Sun (1961) and Santo (1963-1964).

Yes, these were explicitly referenced in my original post, including dates, record numbers, images and YouTube links.

Great additional comment, I forgot about 'Dodger' and her love for Anita as well.

Again, quite a special lady, Anita Wood Brewer. I hope she is doing well.

What a great topic - Anita was with Elvis thru the "great" years.........how come he didn't have Anita come over to Germany? Just wondering? I guess in '62 she gave Elvis the ultimatim..................he chose Priscilla..................what more is there to say.........he never pursued her after that incident.............I'm glad she saw him again in '72........Anita seems to be a real sweetheart and I'm glad she met up with Elvis and had a few good years with him. It seems Elvis' family really thought she was a special lady.

Thanks a lot.

I noted that Anita had planned to see Elvis in Germany, had her bags packed and ticket purchased, when management stepped in and basically told her: NO.

In the summer of 1962, Anita did not explicitly give Elvis an ultimatum, she accidentally heard him discussing his ambivalence and said -- no worries, honey, I am OUT OF HERE.

It took a lot of guts, and tears, to make that decision. She loved him. But because of her moxie, she found her true love, Johnny, and a family with three beautiful kids. She made the right decision. But ... did Elvis? That's the topic, in a nutshell.

Wasn't he on one of his Vegas engagements when her father passed away and she called him to say that she finally understood what he was going through when his mother died? He told her to take a deep breath and they talked for a while.

Thanks Doc, for providing an important piece of the puzzle.

Strange, so many people who knew him on a personal level are yet to be heard. Time is not on our side.

Thanks so much.

If anyone has a copy of Anita's 1964 Santo A-side, "Dream Baby," can they post it to YouTube?

Or any of the tracks noted on the 1963 and 1964 Santo singles? It'd be so cool to hear them, start-to-finish.

Note that Wood's "Dream Baby" is not the same as "Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream?)," the 1962 Orbison hit.
