I'm no expert, and I don't know any free (unlimited) software, but you can convert flac to mp3 free online. I've used Zamzar and Online Audio Converter. It's free, it works fine, but don't expect to be able to 'mass' convert numerous files in one time. I'm sure other members with more knowledge can help you better than I, but it's a start. Best wishes!

I always use this free audio converter http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-Audio-Converter.htm#.VlM8FDZOfIU

just be sure to untick the boxes for the added software and chose custom installation where it says express/custom so you can untick those boxes as well , It`s like all free software these days it tries to sneakily install other stuff but you can avoid all that and the program works great.

Alan.

Foobar2000 is the very best player indeed
the program i use is Xrecode II, it converts reliably, and converts several files at once at a fast speed. It also features almost any format you trow at it.

I need something that will allow me to adjust the Read speed of my CD drive, when ripping from an audio disc.

I got a new computer, and I used to have a simple Nero utility program, that let me click & choose what the Read speed would be on the disc drive.

Is there anything that does this as well?

Have you tried Exact Audio Copy to rip CDs? It doesn't specifically do what you ask, but I'm guessing that you want to either rip some particularly awkward discs, or else you want to make sure everything is done accurately. EAC has an accurate mode, and it will re-read any sections where there are errors until it is spot on.

No I haven't. I like to be able to slow down the read speed, so it reads the disc accurately, and doesn't sound like a helicopter taking off.

If you configure it correctly, EAC won't move on until it's satisfied the disc is ripped accurately. With other software, you can slow the drive down all you like but there's still no guarantee that the end result is satisfactory.

Right. I just hate hearing the CD spin so damn fast.

I may look into EAC - thanks.

I found it.

It's called Nero DriveSpeed. Will try to download this when I get home.

But does it guarantee that you are getting an accurate read, or does it just slow down the drive? One does not guarantee the other.

It just slows down the drive.

I understand that it doesn't guarantee a more accurate reading, but this is good for now.

I'm going to look more into EAC and other programs eventually.
