Does anyone have experience with that annoying hum when playing records.
Unfortunately I do and I cannot get it solved so if someone can help me with this.... please !!
I have bought a akai aa-1030 amplifier and a akai ap-003 record player both vintage 70s. Both well maintained and beautifull to see.
Both amplifier and record player have an ungrounded plug. Both plugged into an ungrounded outlet.
The amplifier and record player are connected together with a grounding wire. Also an additional tgrounding wire runs from the amplifier connected to the grounding of the electrical installation (this because the outlet are not grounded). Without this last grounding, the hum is even worse.
When everything is connected there is a noticeable hum with a high tone through it. I have no knowledge or aducation in electric equipment whatsoever and this is the best i came up with while googling.
I also ordered a different and hopefully better rca cable for connecting (you know the red and white plug) perhaps this will fix it but i have my doubts. Any help would be very appriciated!

To solution was changing the RCA cable for a more expensive one. A thicker grounding cable between turntable and receiver. An extra grounding from the receiver connected with the grounding of the electrical installation of the house and indeed changing the cartridge.
The sound is amazing of this vintage audio and i was lucky it could be fixed that way BUT if that didn't work out right it would have cost me hundreds and hundreds of euro's to overhaul the audio installation to get it work again. Before buying i didn't realize that. You can buy vintage high quality audio fairly cheap but to also maintain it is something totally different and mostly very pricey.
