Best CD ripping software for CD backup
Wondered if anyone could recommend an error-free CD ripping software for backing up my CD's? (free or otherwise)
I've been using dbpoweramp (ripping to flac - uncompressed) but I've noticed some errors when listening to these files after the fact... pretty discouraging seeing as I have over 300 CD's already backed up.
I'd like to start over again but using the right software this time.
Also, is it recommended to use a particular kind of CD player for ripping the CD's? I've just been using the standard one that came with my computer.
Thanks in advance!!

This one should do the trick
http://www.exactaudiocopy.de
It also gives u a log at the end of ur ripping to let u know if any errors have occurred.
Your pc cd player should work fine as i have never used otherwise

I also use EAC as mentioned above, I have also taken to listening to the rip after the fact to check for errors and also to take note of any other inherent digital anomalies and then fix them if possible...

What do you use to playback the Flac files or is it purely to store them?elvis-fan on Mon Apr 02, 2018 2:19 pm wrote:Wondered if anyone could recommend an error-free CD ripping software for backing up my CD's? (free or otherwise)

I recommend MediaMonkey is a good media library. I use the gold version and very happy with it.

Re: Best CD ripping software for CD backup
I used Audiograbber before, but EAC gives you better information in case of mistakes. I set the speed to 4x for best results. In case you see some dust or fingerprints some cleaning spray helps a lot.
Example, of course there are other brandnames as well.

Re: Best CD ripping software for CD backup
I have tranfered my entire collection to HDD and listen to my music streaming from HDD if you have a large collection and use a good streamer. It is so much easier to create a playlist, sorting your music in genres etc. I started out with EAC to rip everything to Wav. files and many times I found clicks and pops and other things that I tought didn't appeared on the CD. When listening and comparing the ripped audio and CD I found out that it was present on the CD as well. It seems to me that a CD player is much more forgiving comparing to a ripped file. I now use DB Poweramp as my player (Bluesound) better handles the tagging. I have my own way to tag my tracks, and as I started out around 2005 I just do it the way I always did.
If you rip the same track in EAC and in DB Poweramp with no tags added you will find that the Poweramb file is bigger not a huge difference but still bigger, why I don't know. EAC is free my version of Poweramp is the one you have to pay for.
I can't find any reason to rip to other formats than Wav. files as the cost of HDD is no big deal. If you like you can always transfer them to FLAC or whatever you want, and still have a Wav. file as backup. You need to backup your HDD every disc I rip I copy them to three different HDD's. One is using on the computer another to my Hifi gear and the third one for archive and safety, the first two I disconnect when not in use.
