The outtakes of My Rifle, My Pony, And Me with Dino alone are worth buying this CD!

Is this a "grey market" release of outtake material first issued by Bear Family on their amazing Nelson box set?

Label: Starrtime Records

If so, this topic asks for a rip-off of a rip-off.

Mind-boggling.

It is not released on the Bear Family Box.

Right. As I pointed out, the label is identified as "Starrtime Records."

Where exactly did these outtakes first appear? No way they are making their debut on a "grey" market release.

If you aren't including bootlegs then they might be, actually. There appears to have been a burst of activity centred around this kind of material, with similar albums coming out for Neil Sedaka, Johnny Cash, and The Everly Brothers. The Everly album didn't use anything from the various Bear Family (and others) releases, nor did the Johnny Cash disc. I don't know for sure about Neil Sedaka, although I don't think it was out before. The sound quality is good, but it's not perfect. I've only played each disc once but from what I remember at least one disc has a few tracks that run at the wrong speed, and another has excessive wow and flutter in parts.

I don't have this CD, so I can't help with the original post.

But, for those of you interested, here's Trevor Cajiao's recent review of this record (and of another newly released Nelson CD) :

Oh, that review is extremely helpful, thank you! So, it seems much of what is on the CD was first heard on Bear Family after all, although perhaps not a straight rip of their Nelson products. Thanks.

You're welcome, Doc.

It looks like an interesting release, if only for the few tracks not available elsewhere. And it's not too expensive - it can be found on European Amazon sites, for example. Maybe I will get it, but my wish list is just too long... :)
