Were the songs recorded in 3 or 4 track and mixed down to 2 track for the lps? The remix i did into 3 track sounds great.

It depends upon which sessions you are referring to. Starting with the October 17, 1963 session for I Want to Hold Your Hand/This Boy single, the Beatles were record onto 4-track tape which allowed them greater flexibility for overdubbing and mixing. Before that, EMI and George Martin cut them in 2-track stereo. At this stage of their career, they tended to approve just mono mixes (as songs were mixed to one speaker in the control room) mixed down to 2-track for preparation of the mono and stereo records.

Iwonder when the songs were issued on cd esp Please please me,With the Beatles why they didnt use the actual 3 or 4 track masters instead of the 2 track lp masters? I like the way it was cut it sounds better than released.
