It's always nice to hear different versions of Elvis songs. here's ella fitzgerald singing Soldier Boy from 1955.

Don't you just love that old sound, transports your mind to another place and time that just feels so much warmer, simpler and romantic than the 21st century.

Thanks! And that also solved something for me. "It's written in the blue." I always heard Elvis singing "It's written in the blook." Never could figure that out!
Anyway, she's wonderful. Nice treatment of the song!

It's a very different type of backing for Ella, with the doo-wop sound miles away from the intimate albums she was recording with Ellis Larkin at the time. She rarely revisited that pure pop sound, but in the mid 1960s she did a wonderful update of the Ink Spots' We Three, which has very much of a 60s pop sound to it.
