Warning : Not for the faint of heart. This is purely atrocious, at best.

It was an ill-advised suggestion, but Crosby was not the only one trying to "catch up" with the new generation. And his body of work is beyond reproach.

Hey Bing is generally regarded as the nadir of Crosby's career, but he was far from down and out in the late 1960s or even as he hit 70+ years of age. His voice never deserted him - it barely even changed - and his charisma was really quite remarkable, as can be seen on this lovely little performance with Glen Campbell.

A couple of years later he made a thoroughly enjoyable album of recent songs with Count Basie. It wasn't going to change musical history, but it's a fair stab at bringing pop and country songs into the big band idiom, even if certain tracks (such as Snowbird) are misfires. Here's one people on this board might recognise:

Sadly, the version of Put Your Hand In The Hand from the same album is not on youtube for you to enjoy!

A year or two later, Crosby was having a renaissance thanks to the duet with Bowie and a run of really fine albums, including the brilliant double lp recorded at the Palladium with guests Rosemary Clooney and Ted Rogers.
