Waylon Jennings - Lonesome, On'ry And Mean

Mon Apr 16, 2012 5:34 pm

One of my favorite Jennings tunes, Waylon at his very best!

Unfortunately I can't find his studio version on youtube (it's pretty hard nowadays to find ANYTHING on youtube, especially over here in Germany),
so I posted this version from his "Lost Outlaw Concert" on August 12, 1978 (if I'm not mistaken).

Anyway, here's the fantastic studio version (I apologize for the slight distortion, don't know where that comes from. It's lifted directly off the Bear Family Box "Six Strings Away". Maybe it's sourced from vinyl.):

Lonesome, On'ry and Mean is definitely one of Waylon's finest -- both the album and its title track. He was such a great artist and a terrific performer.

Thanks guys, absolutely agreed.

Here are two more "familiar" tracks:

Waylon Jennings - Never Been To Spain.wav (26.38MB)

Waylon Jennings - Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues.wav (33.62MB)

While I don't like Waylon's arrangement to "Never Been To Spain", I kinda like his "Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues" rendition.

I love Waylon's cool, confident, sexy delivery of this Neil Diamond song:

Waylon Jennings, "Kentucky Woman" ("Hee-Haw," Season 2, Episode 13 - December 15, 1970)

Thanks for posting, Doc. Always liked Waylon's version of "Kentucky Woman". Waylon was just one of the coolest guys around.

If somebody wants the studio version of "Kentucky Woman", please feel free to PM me, I'll gladly upload it.

@Rob: There are so many Waylon songs I really love. Unfortunately I listened to a big deal of them when I was really down about ten years ago. Since then every time I listen to them, it brings back that old uncomfortable feeling - but I love them anyway, they are a very important part of my life.
Nevertheless, "Anita, You're Dreaming" is among my favorites too. I also like "Sweet Dream Woman" and many, many more.

Oh, and congratulations to your 7500th post! :D

Yeah, I them too! Used to play them quite frequently when I felt really low about ten or twelve years ago (they made me feel even worse :D ) - time to give them another spin... :D

Waylon is great - try to find as many albums as you can. At least until 1980, after that the quality went a little downhill (but it's still very enjoyable material).

This is as good way to start a Waylon collection.Cheap and cheerful but some of his greatest albums, some with bonus material, and the sound is pretty good too.

Wow, didn't know that thing was out - thanks, Norrie! (Otherwise I have to say I was dissatisfied with the sound quality on the same box with Kris Kristofferson albums, so I might skip this one.)
