Bobby Darin - Wait By The Water

Thu Nov 24, 2011 12:09 pm

There's a young Lady in Germany who, when she isn't giving me some cheek (ie calling me a soft hearted man  ) is putting together and uploading some rare & catchy Bobby Darin tunes just like this -

What do others think ?

Don't know when this song came out however or on what record...

PS I have a feeling she is here too  .

This came out in 1964 from what I remember, and was just a single release - the song didn't appear on a regular album (although it might have been on the Capitol best of, but don't have that info here with me). It's another case of Darin updating a folk song for his own means (in the same he did with Clementine), but this time in a countryish vein. It's one of my favourite single sides from Darin's capitol sides - and the alternate take on the Capitol Collectors Series is slightly better than the master I think - less polished and a little rawer.

Thanks mate. The same young Lady had tried to upload "When I Get Home" (which I requested) and it was blocked worldwide. You know that one...

i do indeed! Don't like it as much though - although it's more highly regarded because of its british-invasion influence.

Seemed pretty damned disappointing to me that one 1964 Bobby Darin song was allowed but the When I Get Home (also 1964) got blocked.

I love this song! Darin at his best!
The instrumental break halfway throuh the song is awesome!

The flipside, The Things In This House, is my favourite Darin country song!

What a brilliant coupling of songs. :smt023

i think The Things In This House sees Darin with his tongue firmly in his cheek as he lightly sends up the cry-in-your-beer type country song. It's not a serious number by any means, as testified by the "twang" in Darin's voice and the lyrics:

Lots of things have changed around here since you're gone
Lamps don't shine as bright and the tv won't go on
The pictures on the wall seem to hide their face
And I can't find a smile around here anyplace

Yes, the things in this house
Miss you just as much as I
The only difference is
They don't know how to cry

The rug just don't feel the same beneath my feet
The song bird's not singin'
And the dog won't eat
And the lonely walls can only stand and stare at me
And happy can't be found in our old dictionary

Yes, the things in this house
Miss you just as much as I
The only difference is
They don't know how to cry

Oh just the same
I hear the things that they can't say
You can call it my imagination...that's okay
All I know is what I feel way down inside
I can run all through these rooms
But I can't hide

Yes, the things in this house
Miss you just as much as I
The only difference is
They don't know how to cry
