Never been that crazy about this version as much as I enjoy a lot of "Northern Soul" but its always been popular throught that 'scene' in the UK. Actually I believe the original was by Ed Cobb. I thought Soft Cell actually did an excellent cover, it was the UK's biggest selling single in 1981.

I never said they didn't.
However Gloria's version to me shows she was unlucky not to have had a similar result. Good strong voice she has. Just checking out some of her other records on You Tube at present.

I never said that you said they didn't either :D

On the subject of US hits that didnt work in the UK. Do you know the song 96 Tears by Question Mark & The Mysterions? You'll find it on You Tube. I think it's a fine tune!

Cheers!

I really like Gloria Jones' first version of Tainted Love, but my favourite is Soft Cell's hit recording of the song -- Marc Almond is a brilliant musician, IMO; and he updated a fine soul song into the '80s synth sound with style to spare. I also like Marilyn Manson's take on the song -- it's heavy, and dark in a different vein, but it worked and offers a further contrast of styles.
