Ella Fitzgerald: Something (1971)

This new section of the forum is a great idea, especially for opening up the eyes of those members who only listen to Elvis.
This is a kind of a reply to the Ella Hey Jude thread. This is a version of Something from a concert in Belgrade in 1971. The only official version by Ella is on the pretty awful Ella a Nice album, which has poor sound and Ella in poor voice (for her). The Belgrade show is from the same year and in far superior sound and voice. The song isn't Ella's finest hour, but just check out that phrasing at the beginning of the 2nd verse at about 0.50. Brilliant.
There is much Ella to enjoy on this (my) youtube channel, including a number of complete rare Ella concerts and tv performances (+ some Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin).

Nice; very nice . . . Such wonderful phrasing and timing . . . I agree that Something wasn't one of Ella's finest moments on record, but it was a popular song approached by so many, and it was no surprise that she also took this Beatles classic on.
