With the sad demise of Amy Winehouse, it remind us that artist's problems often overshadow the talent which made them famous in the first place. Elvis is, of course, a case in point. As was Judy Garland. Here she is with one of her best performances. It's from 1963, and the 2nd episode of her TV show. Torch songs don't get better performances than this. Anyone who thinks Garland is about belting out Over The Rainbow and turning up late and ramshackled to concerts are in for a shock!

What an incredible talent was poor Judy . . . As an actress, she was marvellous, but as a singer, she really was something else. Such warmth of tone, great inflection and power, but gentle and soft; inviting and honest -- a voice so rich in character, and identifiable for all the best reasons. The word "talent" is an understatement with regards to Judy Garland . . .
Again, great taste . . .

Oh, and Cottage for Sale is such a beautiful song . . . And Judy's version is one of the best.

Sadly she never recorded it in the studio, which is a shame. I think this was the only performance.

Yeah, I believe so -- a studio recording would have been considerably charming and affecting.
