Funny, I was listening to this clip in the background when I clicked on your
post.

This was always one of my favourite songs when Rick played Toronto in
the eighties.
It was current, but kind of reminded me of I Believe. Same driving, guitar
driven track.

Rick was promoting his Playing To Win album on this appearance of The Tonight Show in 1981. I purchased this album when it came out, but found it to be disjointed. No real flow.
Loved Almost Saturday Night, Believe What You Say, Back to School Days, and It Hasn't Happened Yet.
That was it ... the rest of the album sounded like budget, throwaway cuts to me.

To answer your question, I loved the clip. No one was more at home in front of a camera than Rick, for obvious reasons.
To my ears, this was a modern classic.

John Fogerty liked Rick's treatment of
his song, which I guess is the final word on the subject.

You saw him in concert ?! ?? Wow that must've been cool.

jesmelrec (Cathy) is a huge fan and puts up lots of rare stuff. She told me that she has some more fragments of Rick's 1985 Aussie tour she will upload soon.

I saw Rick twice at Ontario Place Forum (once solo, once with Del Shannon!),
twice at a nightclub called BB McGoons, and once at Toronto's Skyline Hotel
in the Diamond Lil Lounge (seats right at the stage for that one!)

No digital cameras or discrete phone camera back in 1982.
Had tickets in my hand to see Rick perform with The Jordanairres for
Jan. 1986. Sadly, Rick died New Years Eve 1985.

Here's a pic from an open air concert at the Ontario Place Forum (bottom photo)
Summer concert, rotating stage, and Rick was superb.
Top photo was from BB McGoons
By far and away, the most charismatic performer I've ever seen in concert.

Here's a review of the Ontario Place concert from the Toronto Sun.

Just played Playing to Win a couple nights ago. Almost Saturday Night is one of the standout tracks, along with It Hasn't Happened Yet, I Can't Take it No More, Do the Best You Can, and the two songs Rick wrote, Call it What You Want and The Loser Babe is You. Wish he had completed the followup for Capitol, but the relationship with the record label was deteriorating by then. They put a single, Give 'Em My Number, on the market with absolute no promotion, then used its failure as an excuse to cancel the full album. Doll Hospital, from the aborted 1982 album, is on several cd's now, and one of the best things he cut in later years.
