The trio was a fantastic fifties band. I'm not huge on the solo stuff but I think they were the best rockabilly group not on Sun.

Some of Johnny's pop sides were really good - You're Sixteen, Dreamin', Big Big World. My mom had an album of that stuff, it brings back good memories. It wasn't until much later that I heard the Rock 'n' Roll Trio recordings, but I love 'em! Especially the train songs (Lonesome Train and Train Kept A Rollin'). Of course, Johnny and Dorsey wrote quite a few hits for Ricky Nelson, too (It's Late, Believe What You Say, Waitin' in School, Just a Little Too Much). I've got a cd with Dorsey's version of It's Late - with, according to Rick, what sounds like Baker Knight on guitar. Baker also wrote a lot of hits for Rick in the 50's and 60's.
