Classic artists - new releases round up

Thu Mar 10, 2011 9:54 pm

For those interested in an at-a-glance view of all the new releases from veteran artists, I put up the March update a few days ago at:
http://www.classicpopicons.com/new-releases/

Some great stuff this month, including the 40th Anniversary edition of Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Elvis Is Back Legacy Edition" and an Aretha Franklin box set.

Now updated with the new releases for May:
http://www.classicpopicons.com/new-releases/

It's a month dominated by reissues and compilations, from artists such as The Monkees, Glen Campbell, McCartney and The Hollies. Also new offerings from Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks, although those in the UK will have to wait until June for the Nicks' album.

This one has got to be a bootleg:

Thanks but the Orbison one is NOT BEFORE TIME... Also I fail to see the logic in releasing a double of just his U.S. monument 45's and being presented in mono.

The Bear Family box set release is still available.

Apparently it isn't. It's the same company that released a Dylan show previously and also the Bruce show we talked about recently. I think there is a loophole which makes these US radio broadcasts legal for release in Europe. That's why this release and their other titles are carried by mainstream outlets. The Daily Express newspaper isn't known for promoting bootlegs:
http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/243 ... eld-Media-

The Springsteen title is also currently number 28 in the UK album chart:
http://www.theofficialcharts.com/indepe ... ums-chart/

Again, not something that would occur if it was a bootleg.

Is the company MRS? Does it come with a book?

I guess it's a similar grey area, but not exactly the same as the dates don't fit the 50-year rule.

Actually, there's also a correction. The Bruce title is number 28 on the UK's Independent Album chart, not the regular Album chart. Still an official chart though so the same point applies.

I'm looking forward to getting hold of the 50th anniversary release of Frank Sinatra's first album with Reprise, Ring-a-Ding Ding . . . Frank Sinatra Enterprises are doing such a terrific job with Frank's catalogue - classic albums, concerts and otherwise - and this should be no exception. It's a fantastic album, totally effervescent with Sinatra on vintage form and Johnny Mandell arranging with real zest . . .

Thanks for doing these updates. Most handy and interesting. Does anyone know what's different about the forthcoming re-issue of McCartney's "Run devil run" album??

Nothing.
The only McCartney titles upgraded this month are "McCartney" and "McCartney II", the others are just re-releases.

Now updated to include July releases.

The box sets of original albums by Sam Cooke, Little Richard, etc look interesting.

Yes, they do look interesting, but Amazon don't bother publishing the track listings for these!! Also, they look like cheap 'public domain' issues, I hope I'm wrong. The "Champion Records" 3 cd set looks cool. I may get that one.

Yes they didn't for Amazon UK, but the Amazon.com links for Sam Cooke and Little Richard do include that info.
