The BEATLES Appreciation Topic...

#1750594

Post by Walter Hale 4 »

Hello all,

Release date on Let it Be documentary restoration and companion book has just been announced for October 15, 2020.
Interesting date as it comes six days after what would have been Lennon's 80th birthday.

Peter Jackson’s documentary about the Beatles’ Get Back sessions could be coming in October. The release date of what appears to be a companion book is now available for pre-order.

A listing for Get Back: The Beatles has been spotted at Amazon by the Daily Beatle. Even though no information other than a release date of Oct. 15 is given, a reader reached out to the publisher, which said the book “is the authorized story of the making of the Let It Be album (ultimateclassicrock)

On Amazon in both the UK and USA, a book with the title The Beatles Get Back was announced for release in October 2020. John Bezzini noticed the listing on Amazon and contacted the publisher and received this info: “The Beatles Get Back” is the authorized story of the making of the “Let it Be” album and the Beatles’ break-up, told through exclusive photographs, transcripts of the recording sessions, and an essay by Hanif Kureishi. The book will be the companion to the film directed by Peter Jackson, both released next fall (exact date to be announced).

The new film will be based around 55 hours of never-released footage in the studio, shot between January 2nd and January 31st, 1969.

These studio sessions produced The Beatles’ Grammy Award winning album Let It Be, with its Academy Award winning title song. The album was eventually released 18 months later in May 1970, several months after the band had broken up.

This may be one of the reasons the documentary is only available on old formats and is now something of a collector’s item. That may all change soon according to Paul McCartney, who told a Canadian radio station the Beatles film may hit DVD and Blu-ray in 2020 in time for its 50th anniversary. But there’s a twist. It won’t be the original film. according with Den of Geek.

January 1969. Twickenham Studios and Apple Studio. Get Back Sessions 1969.

These songs were, perhaps written in 1956-early 1960 (early The Beatles) and recorded in January during a working album session Get Back, but the song has never been officially published.

"I Lost My Little Girl" - the first song written by McCartney in 1956. Recorded on 25 January 1969. A performance of this song can be heard on McCartney's 1991 album Unplugged (The Official Bootleg).

"Too Bad About Sorrows" - the first song written by Lennon-McCartney in 1957. Recorded on 8 and 21 January 1969.

"Just Fun" and "Thinking of Linking" - written by The Quarrymen in 1957. Recorded on 8 and 29 January 1969.

"Because I Know You Love Me So", "Won't You Please Say Goodbye" and "I'll Wait Till Tomorrow" - written by Lennon-McCartney in 1960. Recorded on 3 January 1969.

Song "I Fancy Me Chances" (he also "Fancy My Chances with You") was removed from the video due to copyright infringement from the bonus disk Fly on the Wall.

Here's an outtake of "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window"from the Let It Be/Get Back sessions. This is on the album, "The Complete Rooftop Concert", boot. Hopefully it gets an official release on the 'Let it Be/ Get Back' box later this year -

Hey i just found this unusual binaural mix on Lennon's 1974 song 'Going Down on Love'. Don't ask me where it originates from, LOL It's worth a listen and addition to the topic.

This topic will be featuring the fab four's solo material in particular the rare and any new mixes such as this one.

Now as a comparison here is the original (albeit 2010 remaster). Song was the opener to 'Walls and Bridges' album and his best one at that. 100 percent recommended

Another from Walls and Bridges is #9 DREAM.

John Lennon directed this footage for possible use in one of his promo videos. Most likely "Whatever Gets You Though the Night" but some similar footage was used for "#9 Dream" and aired in the UK. John spent the day around New York filming scenes in Central Park and various other locations. Just John and one camera man. After being in front of the camera for several hours, John wanted to capture some footage of average folks, and filmed these scenes Candid Camera style; most did not know they were being filmed. This is part of several 16mm film reels re-discovered in 2001.

Next will be another one from the solo years - Paul McCartney & Wings 'Goodnight Tonight' Promo Quad.

Quote Beatle Bob : "Here is the start of what I hope will be frequent uploads of rare Macca promo videos. He now has over 150! This is Paul's 1979 promo video for the single "Goodnight Tonight" Several versions were shot, and at least 4 were completed. To my knowledge, only two have aired on TV."

Staying with the fab four's solo material for the moment, this is original promo video of 'Early 1970' - Ringo Starr , the flip to his famous 'It Don't Come Easy' single.

While i was aware that at least one verse was directed at Lennon and his wife, i did not realize it was also about George and Paul. Equally i didn't know Ringo is left-handed !

Link to the famous 'Rooftop' gig this time in HD. Beatles fans have been putting this up on YT , only to have it deleted by the copyright watchdogs.

It's available once more here: https://mega.nz/#!mGYyFKqZ!cSoFm_jBKupv9mjIyTp-CqGtMzT2S7cL_OyvdIm_-bU

This is absolute TOP NOTCH both audio and visual. You better download this while it's still available cause It doesn't get any better than this, friends !

Whoever produced this video-audio synch has done a first class job of editing out the public dialogs such as the two old codgers (ie "a bit of a disposition" whingers  ) on, if you remember, 'I've Got a Feeling', replacing it with unseen crowd reaction shots.

Unfortunately for me, i have not been able to figure a way to grab this ! I use atubecatcher and downloadhelper (firefox). Even for just the new audio mix alone, i would be happy to have :D

Howard Cosell interviews Lennon RARE.

One of the best, a fabulous interview throughout as Howard puts to Lennon well-considered relevant questions as the interview progresses and is rewarded by honest and engaging answers as a result.

Death of their manager Brian Epstein. This compilation is derived from various news from Sunday, August 27 1967.
Watching Lennon's reaction is probably akin to how most of us felt when he died in 1980.

Thanks. They should have included the audio on ANTHOLOGY 1.
Shame that it wasn't.
