Anyone heard anything about this Bear Family set's release date ?
October 21, 2014 ·
Those who are familiar with Germany's Bear Family Records knows the quality and detail that goes into their music collections. Many fans have longed for Patsy to be given the Bear Family treatment, beyond their 2008 "Gonna Shake This Shack Tonight" collection.
Well, there's a little secret we've been keeping under wraps. But, now, we're able to share the news...
Bear Family is in the early stages of work on a comprehensive Patsy Cline box set. The project will include all studio masters (including the ones left off the 1991 MCA 4-CD set), all available alternate takes, rare recordings and more.
In late September, I met and had dinner with Richard Wieze, the head of Bear Family, while he and his wife were in Knoxville on business, to discuss the Patsy box. All fans will want this set when it is released. No release date has yet been set.
Several fans, including myself, have sent our transcription discs of Patsy's appearances on "Country Style USA," "Country Music Time," etc. to noted Audio Engineer and Restoration Specialist, Doug Pomeroy, in New York, to be transferred for inclusion in the set. But, there are a few gaps, and here's where we need your help.
There are several shows that good copies of the discs are needed so they can be transferred for inclusion:
Town & Country Time #77 (1954) - Jimmy Dean, with Patsy as Guest
Country Hoedown #45 (1956) - Faron Young, with Patsy as Guest
Country Music Time #225 (1961) - Roy Drusky, with Patsy as Guest
Take 5 with Country Music (1962) - Program #8
We will also be on the lookout for rare photographs and memorabilia to be included in the set's companion book.
